Students Write Their Own Books
We have been hard at work for the past few weeks as the students have researched and wrote their own books about someone or something special to them.  The books ranged from pets to parents, and friends to cousins!

Students began by filling in a web with important information needed to write about someone.  Then they took that information and  created a rough draft of their story.  With the rough draft complete, students editted with a partner looking for problems with periods, capitals and commonly spelled words.  They also decided if their stories contained enough information.  I became their final editor.  All students had a one on one conference with me where we made final revisions.  I then took their stories home and typed them.  From there the book making process began (with a lot of parent help!)  We made "dummie" books then copied them to our "good" book.  Students then illustrated their books using photographs and drawn pictures.  Finally, they wrote a little something about themselves and pasted a picture of them on the last page of their book.  We then put the books into hard cover form using wood and mac tac.  The final products are masterpeices that will be treasured forever.

What a great start in their writing careers!
