B.E.A.R. Binder
(Bring Everything Always Ready)
What is It?
A BEAR is a special notebook that your child will carry to and from school every day this year.

BEAR is an acronym that means Bring Everything Always Ready.

The
BEAR will help your child stay organized and keep you in touch with our classroom.
B.E.A.R. Rules:
Take care of your BEAR - it will be used all year long.

Clean out the "classwork" pocket every evening.

Take your
BEAR home each day and return it every morning.

Keep your
BEAR clean - do not eat or drink in front of your binder.

Show your
BEAR to your parent(s) everyday - they will be so proud of your new responsibility.
B.E.A.R. Dont's:
Don't make any marks or drawings in or on your BEAR.

Don't
leave your BEAR at home, on the bus, at the YMCA, Boys or Girls Club or Growing Children.

Don't let anyone borrow your BEAR or tear pages out of your BEAR.

Don't put any papers in your BEAR that do not belong.
What is in a B.E.A.R.?
Here is an overview of what is inside our BEAR.

Zipper Pocket
This is where you should put all money to be brought into school (lunch / milk money, book orders, field trips, etc.) so that it does not get "lost" at the bottom of your backpack. This is also a good place to put any doctor's notes. Students should take their money out once they get to school.

First Clear Sleeve
In this first clear sleeve, you will see the B.E.A.R. binder overview. This will help you to keep your binder organized.  On the backside of this sleeve, you will find a copy of the weekly Homework Assignment Sheet. This will include the homework assignments for the week, specials that we have, and any other important classroom information.

Second Clear Sleeve
In the second clear sleeve, you will find our monthly Lunch Menu.  Plan to come eat with your child occasionally if possible! Note that the menu might change without notice occasionally. On the backside of this sleeve, you will find our class roster. This can be used for sending out birthday invitations, Valentine's Day Cards, etc.

Third Clear Sleeve
In the third clear sleeve, you will find some HOMEWORK HELPERS such as a number grid, reading helpers, and more.

JFK Pocket Folder
In the left side pocket of this folder, you will find work that your child has completed. This pocket should be cleaned out each evening. After you have "oohed and aahhed" over your child's work, I am sure you will want to hang it on the refrigerator. Enjoy!

In the right side pocket of this folder, you will find homework papers. These need to be completed each week and returned to school in the same pocket each Friday.

Yellow Pocket Folder
In this folder you will find important papers from the school and/or PTO.  Please remove and read all of these papers promptly; they will keep you in touch with important news and events that are happening at John F. Kennedy Elementary School.

Spiral Notebook
This notebook will serve as our family/teacher communication log. This will be for notes between me and you. Please stress with your child that this is ONLY for teachers and parents to write in. Check this section daily and I will try to do the same. Please ask your child to let me know when there is a note from you in the log. I will not have enough time to check each log every day. There will be a special basket for your child to place his/her BEAR binder if it has a note for the teacher. I ask that you leave any notes that we may write in this notebook so that we can look back and remember any communication that we may have had. I will initial all notes I read from you and ask that you do the same. That way we know our notes have been read, even when no response is necessary.
