Building the Tsukuda Hobby Kaitou Saint Tail PVC figure kit

At Anime North 2002, I finally bought a Kaitou St. Tail figure kit I saw last year but for some unknown reason I didn't buy it. I did buy it this year and for 2 to 3 weeks prior to this page being written, I worked on it.
Like my page for the construction of a Sailor V figure kit for a friend, I kept a little video diary as work progressed. I wish I had kept more details as I neared completion, as the process I went through to put highlights in Meimi's hair was pretty neat.
Let's start off with the tour, ne?
The kit raw right out of the box. Checking for missing pieces |
What I'll be using to trim the flashing off |
Some of the flashing shows you where and how much to trim |
One trimmed piece down ^_^ |
As I trim more pieces, I test fit to see if I trimmed enough or too much |
The first pieces to be trimmed, superglued, puttied and sanded. They were a little tricky. |
I glued the left hand to the silk hat and began to paint them as one unit |
Color test on the pony tail revealed that the color first chosen (Cadmium Orange) wasn't going to work |
Upper torso and bangs (I hate that word) get paint. The hair that hangs in front of Meimi's face must be painted before assembly so paint doesn't end up in her eyes. |
Face gets some color applied |
Terra Cotta was the color I selected for the hair, and I feel it looks perfect |
With enough skin tone applied to the face, the eyes get some base coat white |
In short order, the face is done ^_^ |
With the upper torso done, and then the rest of the head, the two pieces are assembled. This is one place where the head is not superglued into place, but instead the bottom of the neck is inserted into the hole at the top of that piece. The head has a little movement. The skirt gets a coat of Rose Petal Pink. |
