For some reason, the set up for the Masquerade each year goes between good and bad. Last year it was pretty good. This year was bad. The MC's podium was on stage, so if an entrant went on and stayed at the back of the stage, they were directly behind the podium in some angles from the audience and couldn't be seen. The people who set up the masquerade each year need to tell entrants to go to the front 2/3rds of the stage so people can see them, or at least do what they do in television and put a taped mark on stage where they will be most visible. I think some entrants are a bit nervous and therefore don't go close enough to the front, and putting taped markings where they need to go and stand would remove a lot of the anxiety of not knowing what to do. And I'd keep the podium off stage completely, because it creates seats with bad views. Or if it absolutely has to be on stage, put it opposite where people enter.
The lighting is also an important factor. Too bright, and the result with film or video cameras will be washed out. It's a good thing I figured out how to set the exposure of my videocamera manually. I wish I had figured it out 2 years ago.
I thought the 1 minute time limit would be a bad thing, but as it turned out, I was able to get about 90% of the entire show with one battery. Maybe a 90 second time limit should be the maximum limit allowed, because a good number of anime opening theme songs are about that length and it'd be nice for at least something like that to play out.
The stage still needs to be higher. I think last year it was sufficiently high, but it always needs to be higher than the heads of the crowd. And if there was a camera pit this year, I certainly did not get told about it. That is also one of the things the organizers of this event seriously need to consider.
![]() This is your mind on anime, without sleep or food for 3 days. |
![]() Chief stage ninja gets fresh with the MC. I think he did reasonably well, even if the crowd was divided on liking him or not. I'd love to see one of these MC people do some preparation and learn how to say the Japanese names correctly. Heck, I'd like to be MC for the masquerade if asked. |

![]() Yep - I want my entertainment to do that. Note to girl in pink (on the right): When wearing something that will creep up your legs when you dance, try using double stick tape on the inside of the bottom hem. Or safety pins. ^_^;; It kinda draws away from the overall experience having to see someone keep pulling their dress down... |
![]() Sakura in an outfit from the 2nd movie, The Sealed Card. Unfortunately, Chii-chan thinks there's something up Sakura's skirt she's been looking for. ^_^;;;;;; |
![]() Wow! Rabi En Rose is so tall!! daisuki! |
![]() I dunno... Maybe doing the Chicken Dance is silly, but come on... |
![]() The biggest Cabbit I have ever seen. Cuteness level is way off the charts. |
![]() These 2 won Best Novice. They also did all their lines in Japanese. Kawaii!! Unfortunately, they ran out of time. |

Furi Kuri - doing a little dance to 99 Dead Babboons. Or was it 99 Red Balloons? ^_^;;;
