The Culture and Cuisine of
CHINA
The cuisine of any country is influenced by many factors. The geography and climate of a country are two of the most important influences. In China, the geography and climate varies greatly, and therefore, the cuisine is varied.
And from the barren peaks of the Himalays...
... to the furtile Yellow River Valley.
From the northern region where it is
cold enough for grains like wheat to be
grown for making noodles and breads ...
... to the southern region where rice is
grown. This southern region is warm and

rainy, providing the ideal climate to cultivate
rice, making rice a staple in the asian diet.
Much of the terrain makes growing crops
difficult. There has always been very few

trees, making fuel for cooking limited. The
chinese adapted to this by cutting food into
small pieces so it would cook quickly, using
less fuel. Stir-fry and steam cookery are
examples of this quick cooking adaptation.
