First Grade Class
Welcome to the 2007-2008 school year! Be assured that I will do my best to make this school year an enjoyable time for your child, but also a time filled with real learning. The skills we practice daily in first grade are the building blocks for your child's future success in school and life!
I would like to take this time to introduce myself. My name is Nicci Rosted. I am beginning my fifth year teaching. This will be my fourth year teaching first grade. I graduated from Missouri Western with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education. I live in Cadillac with my husband Wade, our 18-month old daughter Keelie, and our golden retriever Molly. We are hoping to adopt another baby soon, so please keep us in your prayers.
Classroom Website: I have a classroom website that I use to keep families up-to-date on our classroom happenings. Please check it out at www.geocities.com/mrs_rosted If there is anything that you would like to see added to our site, please let me know.
Newsletters: You can expect a class newsletter to come home with your child on Fridays. Please send the Friday folder back to school the following Monday.
Snack: I will send a snack calendar home once per month. Please send in a quick healthy snack on your child's snack day. Some snack ideas include: dry cereal, goldfish crackers, graham crackers, fruit...Please save the cupcakes, cookies, and other treats for special occasions such as birthdays.
Birthdays: Your child's snack day will be on his/her birthday or 1/2 birthday. If your child's birthday falls in the summer, then we will celebrate his/her half birthday.
Spelling words: Each week we will have about 10 new words to learn. We will have weekly spelling tests on Fridays with a pre-test on Thursdays. If your child gets all the spelling words correct on Thursday, he/she will not have to take the test on Fridays! :)
Show-n-tell: Our show-n-tell day will be on Friday afternoons. Please only send one thing to show our class. Please do not send in very expensive or sentimenal items that could possibly get lost.
Water Bottles: The students are allowed to bring in a water bottle to keep at their seats. Please be sure that the water bottle is the sports-type that twist to open (spill proof) and his/her name is written on it clearly. Only put water inside the water bottles. (No juice, pop, flavored water...) The water bottle will be sent home daily to be cleaned and refilled.
Homework: We do have homework in first grade. Homework packets will be sent home once a week (On Wednesdays) and due back the following Wednesday unless otherwise noted.
I am sending a few things for you to look over and/or fill out and return. Please fill out and return the "Getting to know your child", "volunteer sheet", and "class address book" sheets and return them to me either at the open house or first day of school.
We will have an open house on Wednesday Aug. 29th from 6:30-8:00 pm. I will have a volunteer sheet available if you'd like to help in the classroom and your child will be able to find his/her seat, cubby, coat hanger, and generally explore the classroom.
