Dear Sirs:
This letter commits support in time and effort toward assisting
with the research protocol outlined in the grant proposal "An Optimal
Control Device to Assess Fish Health" by Joe Epperson et al.
My recent research has been in the bio-assessment of the "health" of
riverine and reservoir systems. Some of this research has been supported by TVA
and EPA. We have recently completed a bio-assessment study of the Cahaba River as
it flows through Birmingham. Thus, I am most familiar with the River's status
and problems and know the ichthyofauna quite well.
Specifically, I will assist with the survival and toxicology
studies in the lab, the design of lab experiments, and the capture of native
species for laboratory testing. It is my feeling that the testing and design of
a more "environmental-friendly" lure retriever could assist fish
communities already under stress. Further, the proposed research provides a
unique cooperation between small businesses, scientists, and the environment.
Sincerely,
Ken R. Marion
Professor of Biology
