Academic expectations and policies:

Put your name on everything you turn in.  Work without a name will not be graded.

Write your answers in complete sentences, unless otherwise directed not to.  Work that should be in complete sentences but is not, will not be graded.

Homework and projects should be completed on time.  Late work is accepted but worth half credit.

Homework is unfinished classwork.  Only on a very rare occassion will students be given an assignment without adequate time to work on it in class.  Use your class time wisely and you can spend less time doing social studies at home.

Students are given 5 class participation points each day.  To keep these free points, make sure you are working on social studies work (unless all of your assignments are done), not distracting others, and participating in the class (ie: not sleeping).  If all of the 5 points are gone, students become eligible for a lunch detention and/or disciplinary report.

Extra credit is available each day.  Students may keep a notebook of topics discussed in class.  Notes are often on the overhead projector and/or board for students to use.  Notebooks are collected at the end of each quarter and should be well organized.  Notebooks are worth between 0-50 points (0 = no notebook extra credit, 50 = complete notebook that is well organized).

Students should be recording thier academic progress in a quarterly grade record.  This grade record is a mandatory grade and students are expected to have a copy, or record, of each test/quiz grade from the quarter.  This assignment is collected at the end of each quarter and is worth 75 points.  The agenda book is a good place to keep this record, but a notebook or folder works just as well.  Parents/guardians can check thier childs progress by looking over the test/quiz scores from that quarter.  This also helps students observe how they learn and is an easy way to grab some extra points.

Remember that you are not given a grade.  You earn a grade with effort, attitude, and work.  Mr Lytle can only evaluate work that is given to him by students, not work that is left at home, incomplete, or not turned in.
