The first annual "Mr.
D. Classic" horseshoe tournament, sanctioned by the
National Horseshoe Pitchers Association (NHPA) was held
March 18,2000. The Tumbleweed Horseshoe Pitchers
Association (TWHPA) were the hosts, with Mr. D. Shoes as the
sponsor.
The tournament was pitched
on the TWHPA's twenty court facility at Buffalo Springs
Lake, just east of Lubbock, Texas.
Pete
Wheeler, of Lubbock, Texas, took first place in the
Championship Class. He won a play-off game with Kyle
Cornelius of Borger, Texas to win the tournament
champion trophy. Pete pitches Mr. D. Heavy's, with
Ringer Breaker.
Kyle Cornelius not only
placed second in the Championship Class, he also had the
high game of the tournament, to take home the high game
trophy! Kyle pitches Mr. D. Heavy's, without Ringer
Breaker.
In Class "B", Jean
Davenport, of Post, Texas, went undefeated in winning
her class. Mrs. D. pitches Mr. D. Lights,
without Ringer-Breaker.
Lisa
Newton, of Littlefield, Texas, also went undefeated
to be Class "C" Champion. Lisa pitches Mr.
D. Medium's, with Ringer-Breaker.
First Place
in Class "A", "B", and "C", as
well as second place in Class "A", and the
high game were all won by pitchers using Mr. D. Shoes!
The trophys, given to
the 1st and 2nd place winners in each Class were hand made
by Mr. D. himself. He had miniature Mr. D. Shoes, made
of steel, ringing the stake, with a horseshoe pitcher figure
mounted to the side of the stake. There were very well
liked by all.
Mr. D. Shoes also gave
cash for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishers, with all Class
winners also getting a pair of Mr. D. Shoes of their choice. |
