| "BABY" North Texas Boston Terrier Rescue Babys owner had to surrender this beautiful little girl because she could no longer afford the vet bills to drain fluid or the surgery to help her. Our hearts go out to her past owner. Baby is about a year and a half old and weighs in at about 14 pounds with the tumor. Baby has a condition where the salivary gland secretes into a sac under her chin. As more and more fluid is added the sac just gets bigger and bigger. As you can see, its rather large. Fortunately, Baby, is in no pain due to her condition, although she does refrain from jumping. Laser surgery to try and fix her condition is going to cost more than $1000. Unfortunately the problem may come back even with the procedure. As I write this, Baby, is on her way to the vets office to have it done. Currently we have 3 pets in our care that have serious medical problems and the bills are mounting. 02/20/05 Baby is back home after her surgery. The procedure went well although the doctor had to do more than he had envisioned. The doctor removed a salivary duct, a lymph node, and all the excess skin. The bottom of her chin looks like a road map of stitches. Prognosis ? In time she will be fine. Baby is not what you would a happy camper. Although she suffered no pain before the surgery, that is not the case now. She is, to us, very lethargic and is not taking in enough fluids. The right side of her face is a little deformed from the swelling but should get better as the trauma subsides. She goes back to the vet tomorrow to possibly have the drainage shunt removed. Shes such a brave little girl. We hope that after she recovers she will be able to jump once again as all Bostons do. Check back for further updates. Even as I write this , there is a prospective adopter for her. |
