SS4G2a Why Native Americans occupied areas

a-Native Americans: Permanent villages or not

We had a great week with Mrs. Studdard's class last week and ended up with a day of paper mache building their physical maps.  This was an optional activity for students who didn't owe other assignments.  We'll be painting these early on the following week, so look for them to come home around the 20th.

I love teaching history and this week will be no different.  We'll be exploring the first Americans, how they got here, how they survived and where they are today.  I was fishing this summer on the Pacific Ocean, and will relate how the fish spawning was critical to survival of those people.

We'll finish the week with a look at the Indians of the Southwest.  Hopi and other tribes were very resourceful in the desert climate (where your teacher is from) and used irrigation very successfully.

If I can round up enough copies I will send home "Tracing the Anasazi"-a mini-book that can be read with your child.  This will be on Wednesday.  Unfortunately, some of my materials are missing in this subject and I'm not sure if I can come up with enough copies of many of these extended learning texts...

"Ya ta he" everyone!
