Mr. Arnold's  4th Grade Class-Social Studies

Social Studies standards for 8/27-8/31 (Mr. Arnold's class)

SS.4.7-Differences between physical and political maps.

We will be drawing physical maps on Monday and maybe even building landforms if we have time....

SS4E1a- Opportunity cost

SS4E2- Personal budget

SS4E1c- Specialization

SS4E1e- Trade

SS4G1a-Physical landforms of the United States.  (cont)

We read about and discussed our land and climate as well as our nation's resources last week with Mrs. Studdard's class.  We also did a scavenger hunt for many key parts of the book (index, glossary, table of contents).  We had a great time reenacting (tableau form) some great scenes in American history (researched in the Social Studies book).

This week with our class we'll be studying opportunity cost, personal budgets, specialization and trade!  Students will be drawing maps and hopefully we'll be making physical maps into models to extend creative thinking!!!

Look for
"A Walk With John Muir"-a short reader I will be sending home on Wednesday night.  This summary of John Muir is leveled to our grade and part of our Houghton Mifflin Social Studies package.  Read and discuss with your student if possible!
