Chapter Two: The Flame of Novadramon
Sam looked down at the Digivice as he walked behind the others. He turned the device over, investigating its underside. Then he looked at the side. Tridemon was watching this with a big grin on his face. Sam, what are you doing? The small Digimon asked, walking beside Sam. Huh? Sam looked down at Tridemon, his thoughts interrupted. Oh, I was just trying to figure out how this thing works. Let me see. Tridemon requested. Sam handed the small device to his friend, who turned it in his hands, investigating it. The way it brought us here, it was fascinating. Sam observed, looking down at Tridemon. I just wanted to know if there was anything else it can do. It can tell the time! Tridemon announced, holding up the Digivice, proud of his discovery. So can my watch. Sam replied, looking down at his wristwatch and finding that it and the Digivice agreed. Hmm, its accurate. But nah, I was talking about things like that before. Far more... extravagant things. Err Tridemon uttered, as he continued pressing buttons randomly on the device. Ah-ha! Look! Tridemon gave the device to Sam, who looked at its screen. He smiled. What? Tridemon asked. Never mind. Sam replied, grinning. Well, to me, a calendar is extravagant! Tridemon commented. Sam clipped the Digivice back on his trousers and looked down at his friend. Where are we going? Tridemon asked. Through a forest? Sam replied. I dunno. Youre the one that was born here, you tell me! The eight young people and their new friends were walking through a thick forest. The tall trees covered the night sky like huge green parasols, keeping the little moonlight there was out of their domain. The few rays that did get through however were sufficient to show the friends which way to go. Tim lead the way, the others following for lack of having any better ideas. Sam approached his friends. Guys, where are we going? Sam asked the group. We should find a way out of this forest. Tim answered indirectly. Im hungry! Kerri complained. Me too! Shocamon shouted. Tim, cant we stop to find some food? Where? Tim asked, not slowing his pace. Theres nowhere to eat around here! There must be! Kerri screamed, looking around her quickly. We should follow the stream. Tim replied, still walking. Nobody had noticed that Khalid and Slipmon had stopped until he called them. Hey, guys! The group turned upon hearing Khalid. Look, an apple tree! Khalid shouted, pointing up. Well done, Khalid. Sam spoke. May I suggest we take a break here for a while?
The dark figure hunched over his crystal jar once more, looking down into the activities of the eight. He slammed a fist down onto the table. Those Digidestined are here! He shouted. Oh well, I know exactly what to do. He took a lump of black sand out of the jar and threw it into the air before him. The brats came here on Monday, I killed them on Tuesday, then I relaxed on Wednesday, and Thursday and Friday and Saturday He sung as the sand cumulated and became a large wasp-like creature with a red frill around its neck. Flymon, go and destroy those kids for me! The figure shouted, pointing. The large insect Digimon flew off quickly.
Tridemon chewed loudly on the piece of apple in his mouth, smiling. He inspected the others as he had his small feast, looking around the small circle they had sat in. It was starting to become quite dark, and Tridemon was starting to get tired. But he was even hungrier. He finished the last bit of apple and threw the core aside as he looked up at Sam. Im still hungry, Sam! He called. Eat your trident. Sam suggested. Tridents taste nice. I want more apples! Tridemon, dont be so greedy. Tim chipped in. Tim, Im hungry myself! Shocamon said. Tridemon, Id love to get you more apples, Sam said, but I cant. Theyre all on the highest branches of the tree. We took all the apples from the low branches! Really? Tridemon stood and looked up at the tree. Could you climb up there? I doubt it. Sam mused, looking up at the tree. Well, if we cant go to the apples, the apples will have to come to us! Tridemon shouted, pointing his trident at a high up branch with some apples on it. Trident Flame! A burst of fire shot out from Tridemons trident, hitting the branch and causing it to fall to the floor. Yes! I did it! Tridemon shouted, running and collecting the branch. He grabbed one of the apples from it and started taking bites into its skin. Well done, Tridemon! Shocamon congratulated, approaching Tridemon and reaching for an apple. Tridemon hit Shocamons paw sharply with his trident. Back! Ow! Shocamon yelped, looking at Tridemon. Tridemon! What was that for? Stealing my food. Tridemon answered, finishing his apple, tossing its core aside and reaching for another one. Tridemon, dont be so greedy! Moosemon demanded, reaching for one of the apples and getting the same reacting from Tridemon. Back! Ow! Moosemon cried. Ha, nice one Tridemon! Sam said, reaching for an apple. Tridemon hit Sams hand with his trident. Back! Ow! Tridemon, Im your friend! Tridemon looked at Sam in silence for a second. Alright. He said finally, handing Sam an apple core. Great. Sam commented, tossing the core aside. Just great. Not my fault youre fussy. Tridemon said simply, starting his second apple. Tridemon, you Shocamons words were cut off by a buzzing noise. Tridemon stopped eating his apple and looked around, as did the others. A figure the shape of a wasp flew out of the trees nearby and flew right towards the group. Its a Flymon! Onomon shouted. Theyre insect Digimon that can poison you with their brown stinger attack! Brown Stinger! Flymon shouted, launching a stinger towards Moosemon, Tridemon and Shocamon, who all jumped out of the way. Returning to their feet, they all looked up to their new challenge. Salamon glowed white for a second before the energy was shot forward. Puppy Howling! Before it could get very far, however, the energy dissipated. Moosemon leaned his head back and prepared to fire water. Moose Spray! A stream of water was launched from his mouth, but the pressure of the water was not enough to hit Flymon. Huh? Trident Flame! Tridemon shouted, pointing his trident at Flymon and launching a string of flame at the foe. The flame hit the large insectoid, who let out a shrill shriek. In return, the Flymon turned and dived toward Tridemon. Tridemon dodged, and the Flymon flew up again. The entire group, except Tridemon and Sam, ran for cover into the bushes. Quickly, run! Kerri screamed. She turned back and watched as Flymon swooped down again towards Tridemon. Tridemon, are you okay? Sam called. Ill be fine Sam! Tridemon replied, dodging Flymon. Just go and hide! Why werent you able to attack? Tim asked. Well, I am hungry! Shocamon replied. Thats probably why. We need food to attack! Tridemon was the only one that ate out of all of you! Khalid exclaimed. That means we cant help them! Flymon swooped down towards Tridemon again. Tridemon dodged again, and Flymon flew up. Come on, Tridemon! You can beat this thing! Sam shouted. I dont think I can on my own! Tridemon shouted back. You have to try! Sam called back. Sam looked up as he heard a buzzing sound. Flymon was swooping down towards him! Sam let out a yelp of pain as Flymon flew directly into his stomach. Flymon flew upwards then, carrying Sam with him and leaving him on a branch in the apple tree. Sam! You okay? Tridemon called. Yeah, Im fine. Sam called back, waving to Tridemon. Tridemon looked up as the Flymon swooped down to attack him. Trident Flame! Tridemon called, a string of flames appearing from his trident. Flymon flew right through the flames, knocking Tridemon into a nearby tree. Tridemon! Sam called down, waving his arms as if trying to reach out to the Digimon. He looked down and stopped. Tridemon, are you okay? Err Im okay, Sam! Tridemon insisted, returning to his feet. Tridemon looked up at Sam and to his horror saw that Flymon was attacking his new friend! Flymon was hovering right in front of Sams face and beating its wings in an attempt to knock Sam off the branch. Hey, go away! Sam instinctively raised his arms in self-defence but then lost his support. With a shriek, he slipped, holding onto the branch by only his fingers. Tridemon! Help! Sam called. He looked up and saw Flymon buzzing around him again. He let out a scream and closed his eyes, not noticing that the screen of his Digivice was glowing. Tridemon looked up in disbelief as the same feeling as before came over him. His body glowed in a brilliant white light. Huh? Tridemon? Sam called. He looked down at his belt and saw his Digivice glow. Whats happening to Tridemon? Andrea asked. Hes Digivolving! Onomon answered. Wow, can you Digivolve further than you have? Audrey asked. Of course! Slythamon replied, looking up at Audrey. Tridemon Digivolve to Tridemon called, as his body grew bigger. Novadramon! He eventually called, in a deeper voice, as the light faded away. Sam and all the others took a good look at Novadramon and gasped; He had grown a lot bigger, about fifteen feet in height, and more human in shape. He had three horns on his head like a crown and three layers of different coloured armour protecting his chest and arms. Novadramon? Sam repeated in shock. Whoa! He called as he his grip left him and he fell to the forest floor with a scream. Novadramon dived forward and caught Sam in his hands. Are you okay, Sam? Novadramon asked. Err Sam was lost for words. Look out! Novadramon turned and saw Flymon dive towards him. Novadramon swung his fist into Flymon, knocking the foe aside. Novadramon then put Sam down carefully and stood to face Flymon. Brown Stinger! Flymon shouted, launching his stinger at Novadramon. Novadramon sidestepped, dodging the attack, and struck at Flymon with his fist. Flymon, however, was too agile, and flew out of the way. Novadramon, you need to hit him fast! Sam called. Novadramon struck with his fist many more times, but each time failed, Flymon simply flying rapidly around Novadramons head. Then Novadramon jumped and skidded into the trees, looking up at Flymon, who was hovering in a fixed position. Come and get me! Novadramon called. Brown Stinger! Flymon shouted, diving towards Novadramon with its stinger exposed. Flame Bubble! Novadramon shouted, crossing his arms in front of his chest and gathering some sort of energy, before pulling them back and releasing the energy as a ball of fire. The fireball hit Flymon, who disappeared, splitting into his component atoms. The rest of the group and their Digimon came out of the bushes they were hiding in and looked up at Novadramon. Wow. Darren said, looking up at Novadramon. Here, guys! Novadramon said, turning and grabbing one of the top branches of the apple tree and shaking it repeatedly. Novadramon smiled as loads of apples fell from the tree onto the forest floor. Hey! Kerri exclaimed. Ta, Novadramon! Novadramon glowed and shrunk until he was back to Tridemons size and shape. Its okay. Tridemon said. And you can all eat it this time! Huh? Tridemon? Sam observed. Werent you that big Novadramon thing just now? Yeah, but I changed back. Tridemon said with a smile. Dont worry, I can become him again. Oh, okay. Sam replied. Lets eat! Eaglemon called out, and the whole group ran towards the apples excitedly.
What do you mean, he lost? The figure shouted angrily. Can you fill me in, DemiDevidramon? Err Well, one of their Digimon Digivolved and fought Flymon, sir. A smaller figure replied nervously. Their Digimon won! I dont want this to happen again! How should I stop it, master? Just walk away, with their Digivices in your hand The taller figure sang. Yes sir, Ill do just that! The smaller figure announced, flying off.
