About my interests
Some of my work, on-line
My very first memory of operating a camera was a little 110 toy camera my parents gave me around age 10.  Boy, the excitement when we processed the film and some of the pictures were actually THERE!

Over the years, I've taken thousands of pictures at school dances, sporting events and of things I considered pretty.  Gradually, my ability to capture what I saw subjectively on film improved.

This proved invaluable in 2002 with my awakinging to the black and white medium and, more specifically, to hand-printed pictures.  To be involved in the entire process from invisioning, through processing, printing, touching up and presentation is truly fantastic.

At the moment, my kit includes a 35mm Canon EOS 33, 28-105mm USM-II zoom lens, Speedlite 420EX, a good tripod, and a couple of odds and ends.  I love each bit.

For media, I prefer Fuji colour film, (it's good value for money) and Ilford Delta 400 for B&W.  It's a bit more expensive, but worth every bit for its sharpness and fine grain.

I've used Ilford ID-11 as developer for B&W and have never been disappointed.  I would love to experiment with Microphen, though.

Paper has always been a touchy issue.  I prefer fibre-based for its wider tonal range, despite the complexities of dealing with it.  I've used Agfa and Ilford, but primarily the first since it was far cheaper but gave terrific results nonetheless.
I haven't got that many of my pictures on-line yet.  Pity.  Some of my best and most recent work I never got around to scanning before leaving South Africa.  The ones that are, I've listed below:

* Contiki tour, Europe, 2001
* Haggis tour, Scotland (coming soon!)
* Black and White 1, 2002
* Black and White 2 (coming soon!)
* Selection of my favourite images (coming soon!)
