Here's why hand-printing is so cool... this is the original picture. Exposed for 20 seconds.
Recently started a black and white photography course.  It's great fun, spending hours in a darkened room with... what is it about photography that attracts gorgeous women, anyway?

The photos on this page were all taken on my trusty Canon EOS 33 using a 28-105 zoom;  mostly Kodak TMAX or AgfaPan (for the moment), and hand-printed on Agfa 8"x10" resin-coated photo paper.  Takes about an hour a print.

Most of the time spent in the darkroom is printing test strips and getting rid of annoying dark or light spots on the photo.  Take the two photos on the right, for example.  This one took about five prints before I got it right...

Our first major project was self-portraiture, so page area currently dedicated to that should make sense. (2002/03/02)
Here's my final print - roof and bottom left burned in an additional 7 and 15 seconds respectively. (V&A Waterfront, Cape Town)

Misty morning on the way to work.  Was surprised at how accurately the light-meter judged the scene.  Love this photo - scan makes the gradient look crappy, though.
Used a polarizer to get maximum reflection from the stone wall.  Initially thought the light falling in on the right spoiled the photo, but it adds quite a nice touch.
Most of my female friends like this one best.  Cat was in the box, only took minor juggling to get the props to make it interesting.
My very first print!  Accidentally bumped the camera, putting it off-center.  The resulting division between light and dark (echoed by my arm and tripod handle) worked brilliantly, though.

Please remind me why I thought at the time that asking her phone number would spoil the compliment of asking to take her picture? (V&A Waterfront, Cape Town)
