He counts as his musical influences early Elton John, early Beatles and Genesis, the Brothers Johnson, Sly Stone, Earth, Wind, and Fire, and Blue Nile. Songs he wishes he wrote include Dion's Abraham, Martin John, Bob Marley's No Woman, No Cry, and Jimmy Cliff's Many Rivers To Cross. Martin has written songs for Paul Young, The Triplets, Robbie Robertson, Kim Carnes, John Waite, Bad English, and the Commodores, among many others. His latest endeavor was a song he co-wrote with Bernie Taupin, "Dance With Life (The Brilliant Light)," which was performed by Bryan Ferry for the "Phenomenon" soundtrack. He has completed a follow-up album, which he began working on in May of 1996. He is currently searching for the right home for that album. Born September 23, 1959, Martin is unmarried. He is originally from Southampton, England and now lives in Encino, California where he shares his home with his cat and two goldfish. |
