The name only appeared after a few months of playing together, with a number of forgetable names suggested and ignored. Les came up with "Moya", apparently meaning something along the lines of "Great Nation". With Les (drums) and Colin (Bass) learning new instruments, and Peter making the switch from rhythm guitar to lead, the songs took a few months to come together.
In October Moya headed for the recording studio for the first time. The result being the first four track demo, "Losing My Way". Next step after recording the disc was to get the music heard, and to get out and play live. Before this, it was decided that Moya needed a manager to help push them forward. The obvious choice being Richard Gilbert, the bands biggest fan, who had been along to almost every practice sessions, acting as unofficial sound man and mediator.
Once Richard had got started, sending out demos, and phoning around venues looking for gigs, Moya got there first gig. The 1st of December 2004 in Grubowski's in Larbert. A regular Wednesday night slot followed, as well as a few other gigs in the sorrounding area.
Moya now have another regular venue, The edge of the brae, in Grangemouth, where we also get the use of the club down stairs for practice. We have been getting gigs more further afield with our latest cd "Breaking Point", recorded at Homegrown studios in Larbert over 2 weekends in June 2006. With regular gigs in Edinburgh at Whistlebinkies and Bannermans, and in Perth at Angry mic's. The cd has also brought interest from Glasgow with gigs at the Cathouse, barfly and 13th note to be arranged.
Moya are Dwayne Mallice, Peter Gilbert, Colin (twiggy) O'Neill and Les Allen.
Starting off as a jam session in Dwayne's make shift studio (a tiny room built onto the back of his garage), between Dwayne, Colin and Peter, attempting to play versions of tunes by the likes of Pink Floyd, the Rolling Stones and Stereophonics. After a while it was decided the only way to go was to track down a drummer.
The drummer was found in the form of Les. Originally a bass player with various bands, who had decided to try his hand at the skins. With the addition of a drummer, and the decison to focus on playing original material opposed to taking the standard route of playing the pubs and clubs with a selection of covers, Moya was born in March 2004, in a basement in Grangemouth.
