Adventures of Priscilla: Queen of the Desert"A cock in a frock on a rock." That's the 'tude of this movie right there. It's crass, it's pretty and it just rocks!Plot Notes: Two drag-queens (Anthony/Mitzi and Adam/Felicia) and a transexual (Bernadette) are asked to perform a drag show at a resort in Alice Springs--a trek across the Australian desert. |
DuetsPaul Giamatti as Todd steals this movie! I cracked up every time he was on screen. And Gwyneth Paltrow can sing! Goofy movie otherwise, but I like that.Plot Notes: Duets is a road-trip comedy which revolves around the little known world of karaoke and the whimsical characters who inhabit it. |
The Hanging GardenI just really fell in love with the idea of this movie. Brilliant all around. And it's Canadian--East Coast fun & scenery.Plot Notes: William, a once obese and troubled teen, goes back to his family's home after being gone for ten years and finds it (and his family) haunted with his past. |
La ConfidentialThe Aussie Invasion! Russell Crowe & Guy Pearce kick ass! And Kevin Spacey is brillant as always. The plot is twist-heavy, but so cool. Every time I watch it, I guess the outcome a little sooner.Plot Notes: 1950's Los Angeles is the seedy backdrop for this intricate noir-ish tale of police corruption and Hollywood sleaze. Three very different cops are all after the truth, each in their own style. |
ProofI love Martin (Hugo Weaving) and Andy's (Russell Crowe) relationship, it's endearingly sweet. The idea of a blind man taking photos seems a little odd, but once Martin gives Andy one last photo to describe, you'll understand why he does it.Plot Notes: Black comedy about a blind man, Martin, who takes photographs as "proof" that the world really is as others describe it to him. |
