COACH'S CORNER
Dear Parents and Swimmers,
I would like to begin this month's entry by thanking everyone for their patience. Due to the fact that Coach Loren and Coach Kim are undertaking other efforts the team has been left a little understaffed. Coach Josh, Coach Erika and myself have been working with many different groups in an effort to smooth out the changes. I am sure that by the end of the week we will have nailed down the coaching for the next year.
As we enter the autumn months it is important to talk about communication. Since the swimmers are back in school, and school work and holidays pop up, it is important to the swimmer's development and the coaches' sanity to inform the coaches when a swimmer will be gone. This would be a huge help to all the coaches and allows us to plan our workouts more effectively.
I look forward to a great swimming season. See you at the pool,

Coach Joel

We still need to fill the position of "Director of Public Affairs & Publications", whose main job is to publish the monthly newsletter, and also assists in generating data and copy for home meet programs.  You must also maintain an archive of each newsletter and meet program, and generate meet announcements, having them sanctioned by SCS, if necessary.  If you think you might be interested in helping the team in this vital role, please talk to any board member today!!
OFFICE HOURS &
WAYS TO HELP ON DECK
We are planning to have our office open daily, M-F, from 5 pm to 8 pm. However, due to changes in the board, we ask that you be patient as we readjust to our new schedule. Our newest board members are still "learning the ropes", and it will take us some time to settle in to a new schedule.
We are requesting help from non-board parents to run the "snack bar" during practice hours. As the weather grows a little colder, this will include setting up the hot drinks machine. Having others help with these jobs will enable the board member on deck to conduct all other MVAQ business, and hopefully, help all our parents in a more timely manner. If you would like to help, please let us know, on deck, or email us at [email protected]. Thank You!!
There are a couple more ways that parents can help on deck. Those arriving for the 5 pm groups can help set up the flags across the pool. We would like to do this daily, because this helps our swimmers to prepare for the meets. The flags help them to determine when to turn, especially during their backstroke. We have had swimmers bump their heads at meets because they have not been able to practice counting for their turns.  Finally, at the end of practice, we need help in covering the pool with the blue pool covers, as well as taking down the flags. These jobs are not difficult, but do require a committment of time and a little muscle. If you can help with any of these jobs, please come to the office and let us know. Covering the pool is part of our agreement with the school district for having pool time, so it is not optional. If each parent could commit to at least one night of helping, we could probably cover each night easily.
Thank you for your continuing support of our team!
ROUGH WATER SWIM
Congratulations to the following swimmers who completed the La Jolla Rough Water swim on September 8th: Miles Taylor, Gabriela Garcia, Carolyn O'Brien-Price, Dennis Curtis, Anyka Gonzales, Andres Gonzales, Karen Flores, Karla Flores, David Flores, Eduardo Santiago all swam 250 yards and received their Survivor Medals for completing the course. Eduardo Santiago came in fourth for his age group and brough home a trophy. Gayle Kountz, Maria Madrigal, and Kathleen O'Brien-Price swam one mile and also received medals. With the ocean swells, the kelp, and seeing fish, ocean racing is very different from pool racing. All the swimmers were happy to finish and encourage others to try this swim next year.
    SWIM TEAM MASCOT
Due to some concerns expressed by some parents with the mascot selected during the last vote, we are suggesting a new vote to pick a name that will be a better fit for our team. There is a sign on the bulletin board with the three new choices, and ballots provided for the kids.
The three new choices are as follows:
  1.  Moreno Valley
Mantarays

2.  Moreno Valley Mako Sharks
  3.  Moreno Valley
Marlins
To see more information on each animal, please check the bulletin board - and VOTE TODAY!!
