Ever wonder where Speed Racer came from? Look in the credits. And without further ado...the cars!
The Mach Five obviously is Speed's car; designed and built by his wily father, Pops. Specially designed for the Mach 5 is a steering wheel with a control panel on it. With the Mach 5's funk gadgets Speed will more often than not avert and elude danger. And through out the series work is always being on the Mach 5.
Mach Five Formula One is the Go-Team's super charged Formula One version of the Mach 5. This crazy fast car, even has all of the added on luxury of the original Mach Five steering wheel. So not only can Speed race with the big time racers, he can use his options to "assist" him in winning the races. The Mach 5 Formula One even has a trunk where Spritle and Chim Chim can hide in and goof around, if you know what I mean. This car races in the Twist and Turn Race of The Secret Invaders episode.
Shooting Star is Racer X's (For those who failed to do their homework, Racer X is Speed's older brother Rex.) spiffy black and yellow race car. This car falls short of the Mach 5 as it lacks special "helpful" features. However, unlike Speed, Racer X demonstrates superfluous driving skills, without the assistance of electronic gadgets.
The Black Tiger is Kim Jugger's car in Desperate Desert Race. This souped up car (numbered 4) is two toned, with black fenders and accented hood. The car was sabotaged and was lost to a sinister pit of quick sand. With the Black Tiger Kim Jugger is supposed to have a perfect racing record, which is assisted by special brakes.
GRX technically speaking, is not a car, but rather an engine, built by Ben Cranem. In the process of testing the GRX Cranem and four other testers lose their lives because the engine, accelerated cars to a speed which human reflexes could not tame. According to Speed, the GRX is able to jettison cars to the speed of sound. In The Fastest Car on Earth Oriena Flux and a group of scientists develop V-Gas. This drug enables drivers to react fast enough to control the GRX. Flux and her horde of hooligans build a car and power it with the stolen GRX engine. This car, which is never named, competes in the Grand Prix of the Orient but crashes and burns, when the driver drinks water; the ingestion of water into the human syster nullifies the effect of the V-Gas. Flux's car was built with British influence, in that the steering wheel was placed on the right side of the car.
Mock Mach Five is built by Dr. Nightcall in Mach Five vs. Mach Five. The mock model is supposed to do everything the real Mach 5 can. Ever the more powerful car, the mock Mach 5 had four jet engines mounted on the bottom of the car, and retractable wings. It even had a hood-mounted Mizmo raygun. The mock model was quite the envy of Speed and the Go-Team.
Prince Jam's Mini Racer is a Formula One race car, but down sized for a spoiled eight year old boy, Prince Jam. As red is supposed to represent royalty, the mini racer was painted red, and emblazed on it was a big number 1. The car appeared in The Royal Racer.
Kabala's Car is yellow and not so fortuitously numbered, everyone's favorite number, 13! Like the Mach 5, Kabala's car was equipped with Auto-Jacks (jacks that boost the car). In Fire Racer the car was seen bounding over the Amazon River. Pretty nifty, don't you think? To see the history of Kabala, visit the character list: good guys.
Kadar's Car is also seen in Fire Race. This car is simply painted red with the number 001. There seems to be nothing special about Kadar's car, except that he died driving it. So maybe that suggests that his mechanics were derelict in their duty, or his greed just killed him.
Melange is a sporty black coupe with number X-3. The Melange appears in Racer for Revenge. The mechanics who designed the Melange, super-charged this puppy, and gave it some extra kick. Speed, who tries to make an example of his modesty, says that the Melange may be faster than his precious Mach 5. In Racer at Danger Pass the Melange works that Mach 5, doing an easy 220 mph (and possibly in third gear!). Back in the day, 15 years before exactly, the Melange was driven by Flash Marker. But today, Flash Jr, has modified the Melange to be drive by remote control. However, this superb car was destroyed in a fiery wreckage.
Mammoth Car was a gargantuan car that appeared in the No Limit World Racer. This massive, beast of a car spans over 200 yards long and is like a train, with 11 different sections, the first containing the cockpit. Imagine what kind of engine is needed to power this baby. The primary engine generates 7500 horsepower (how big is this thing?), and the auxiliary engines, powering each wheel, generates 1500 hp. This gave the Mammoth Car 30,000 wild ponies. Do the math and you'll know that there are 15 wheels, which may be odd, but that's fine, the car isn't exactly normal either. In the Race Against the Mammoth Car this "thing" shows us that it can go 500 mph on any surface (how much rubber does this car burn?). Equipped with magnetic breaks, the Mammoth Car contains $50 million worth of gold boullion. Owner of the car? Cruncher Block, tries to smuggle the gold out of the States.
Next we have the Monster Car created by the poor excuse for a mad scientist, Dr. McFife in Car with a Brain. The Monster Car is a treaded vehicle, like a tank, and is powered by numerous rocket engines. This car is capable of operating while submerged, in a liquid that we humans require for sustenance. It is loaded up with advanced ray guns and force fields. This vehicle is controlled by its own brain. The spiffiest feature on this car is that it has a retractable pipe that allows it to drill into fuel tanks; with this the car can refuel even in hostile conditions, lacking the convenient Texaco. At the end of the episode this car blows up. Poof!
Spritle's Mini Mach Five is like Prince Jam's mini Formula One. This car also appears in The Royal Racer and happens to be a scaled down version of the Mach 5, so that Spritle can drive it. This miniature car has the same color scheme as the real Mach 5, and is number 2, after the Prince Jam's #1. In this episode we can see that Spritle spends too much time in the trunk of the Mach 5 toying around with his monkey. If you get my drift.
