Car Audio

This is just a small page about the stereo I put in my Biscayne.   The car had an original AM/FM mono radio with 1 speaker in the dash and 1 in the rear deck.  The FM rarely worked, so I decided I needed some tunes in the car.   After a trip to the Sony Outlet, I got a great deal on a XRC-450 head unit, and installed that under the dash in a plastic box.  It doesnt look too bad, and it's better than hacking a whole in the dash.  I had two Boston Acoustics 6by9's installed in the rear deck, figuring I could put a new panel in if I ever wanted to return the car to original.  I drove the car like this for a few months, and then after another trip to the Sony Outlet, I again got a great deal on a cd changer, so I installed that in the trunk.  About two weeks after that I visited the local car stereo shop about getting some front speakers installed.  They told me my best option was to have them installed in the door panels,  I really didnt like this, because I knew after they cut my door panels, I would have a hard time ever replacing them.  So I thought about it for a few days and figured I had already destroyed my car's originality, so I went ahead and had some front speakers installed.  I chose a pair of Soundstream SPL55 5.25 inch speakers.  To sum it all up, the stereo sounds great now !

This is the head unit I bought from Sony outlet, it features 35by4 max and 13by4 RMS .  It also has staion nameing, and disk nameing.  It sounds very good, and when you turn up the D-bass switch it can really thump.  Oh and the price ? Only $99 for the headunit that sells in regular stores for $199.  Also $50 for the shop to wire it.

This is the cd-changer model CDX-705 I added. I also picked this up at the sonly outlet for a bargain price of $149.  Installed this in the trunk.   Not much to say about it except it has disk-naming, sounds great, and never skips.

These are the Boston Acoustics Model CX9 three way speakers I had installed in the rear deck.  They sound good, and seem to have a lot of bass due to my large trunk.  The shop that did the installation on these did an OK job.   Cost for these ? $119 plus $50 for installation.

Shown here are the Soundstream SPL55 5.25inch speakers I had installed in the door panels.  These speakers are great, they sound excellent, they have very good bass for their size, and excellent highs.  But for $150 plus $60 for installation, they better sound good.

Total Price : $690

Future additions: Dynamat to reduce vibration in door panels and rear deck.  Small amplifier for rear 6by9's, or tri-way amp to run 6by9's and a small subwoofer to be located in the trunk.
