I am designing this page to show other 80-86 Ford Bronco owners what I have done to my Broncos stereo system. My Bronco's System. I will Include the dimensions and technical info needed to build a quality stereo system for your beloved ride. Some of this info might pertain to 87-96 Broncos also but don't take my word for it.

for those who don't want to cut or modify anything here is a list of the stock speakers and radio size.
    Dash Speaker: 6"x8" or 5"x7"
    Door Speakers: 6 1/2"
Rear Side Panels: 6"x8" or 5"x7"
Radio: Shaft style (80-84), DIN (85-86)
For the dash and or the rear speakers I recommend Pioneer TS-A6815 6x8's or TS-A5715 5x7's
I recommend the pioneers because there isn't to many other car audio companies that make these
    size speakers, especially the 6x8's
As for the doors you can get these size speakers from most if not all car audio manufactures. My
personal choices would be Sony, Pioneer, or JVC because you will get the most bang for your
buck out of these speakers with there resonable price and good sound quality. another thing is
you should try to get 3 way speakers if possible for your budget, you'll get the best sound quality
this way. and for what ever you do avoid the single or so called dual cone speakers, they aren't
much, if any, step up from your factory speakers.
For the radio it self, stay away from the $20-$50 ones you find at K-mart or Target, As the saying
goes: you get what you pay for. You can get a quality tape deck for around $100-$150 for both
Shaft type and DIN style radios. As for a CD player don't expect to pay less than $179 for one
that is worth a hoot. The CD players will only fit into the DIN style openings found on the 85-86
Broncos( althought it is possible to put them in the 80-84 Bronco with a little bit of cutting the
dash plate and removing the shaft radio support)

And for the ones with wild emaginations like me, you can almost do anything you can dream up. as for me I'm in the process of putting a 6 disk CD changer in my glove box (only can be done on Broncos W/O A/C). I will at a later point I'll add a section on how you can do this your self. I will include a diagram of the two pieces of wood you need to cut out and glue togeter to make the CD changer holder. This will also work with some 10-12 disk changers but I would not recommend it because it would put the disk changer too close to the heat ducts and you know what that can do.
the Sony T-62 or T-65 and the Pioneer CDX-P620S are ideal for this because of there small sizes.
Another thing that I included in the glove box design is I have added a fuse block for the Subwoofer amps. For this I got a 1-into-3 fuse block two that go to the amps and one for the Tape deck/Disk changer combo. And to handle this amount of power I have 6 feet of 4-Gauge wire running to the fuse block and Various lengths of 8-gauge Running to the Amps. Some may thing this a little over kill but its better to have wire a little to big that a little to small. I have 16-gauge running to the tape deck. MOST IMPORATANT THING, PLEASE PUT A FUSE ON THE MAIN + WIRE COMING FROM THE BATTERY. if you do not your ride could go up in a puff of smoke if the wire shorts out between ther battery and the fuse block.  Back To My home page
