PT -596 is an example of a late-war, heavily armed South Pacific based Patrol Boats. As the war in the Pacific drew to a close, the role of the PT's changed from night maruders against larger Japanese units to attacks on the Japanese system of supply and troop barges tht plied the various island groups. PT 596 is typical of these barge busting boats used in the final year of the war. Sporting an impressive array of weapons, including a single 40mm Bofors mount, a 37mm canon, a 20mm Oerlicon, two twin 50 caliber machine guns, 4 MK-13 torpedoes and 2 8 tube 5" spin stablized rocket launchers that could give them the firepower of a Destroyer (for 16 shots at least).
This is a conversion package for the Dumas PT -109 kit, containing everything necessary to convert the early war PT -109 into the mid-war PT -596. Included are all of the required guns, lockers, vents, torpedoes, roll off racks, raft, dinghy, anchor, antennas, radar, ropes, hatch lids,window covers, rudders, liferings, turret rings, towing eye, deadlight frames, throttle tunnel, paper patterns to alter the charthouse and turret configuration.
Also included is a full size plan sheet, decal, a 24 page instructions booklet with reference photos , 85 minute video showing a convresion , and a wooden boat stand to hold your model while you build it and totake it down to the local lake.
