Higgins Industries continued to upgrade the design of their 78' PT Boat throughout its production. When crews in the forward combat areas made field modifications to the boats in their squadrons, Higgins field engineers would inspect these mods and make recommendations and send reports back to company headquarters in Louisiana where these changes were considered for incorporation into the next series of boats to be built ,and for upgrade packages for boats already deployed. This boat had an extended cabin, roll off torpedo racks, 2-20mm mounts, 2-30 cal machine guns as well as a 40mm Bofors mount aft to enhance the boats firepower. Theys started to enter service during April of 1944.
Our 1 :20th scale 78 foot Higgins PT Boat model is a faithful reproduction of the Original Boat that served in the Medditeranean Sea during World War 2.
This 78' Higgins package comes as a Fiberglass hull, deck, the removable center section deck for easy access to the interior of your boat for working on your motors and electronics (not included) and cabin structure. A set of 1 :2Oth scale plans is also included with this package. Then the modeler can chose to purchase additional parts from the available fittings listed below. Please find prices on fittings section of this catalog.
