  • The Lord of The Rings - J.R.R. Tolkien (for the 2nd time. I want to get in as much as I can before the last movie comes out).

This is just a listing of books that I've really enjoyed or that have some special significance for me. If you want to talk about any of them, feel free to e-mail me.

Works of Fiction:
  • The Lord of the Rings - J.R.R. Tolkien / The intricacy of this book and the heart put into it truly amazes me. It is slow going at times (only before the hobbits arrive at Rivendell though), but it's totally fulfilling just the same. I suggest you take your time reading it, not because it's a difficult read, but because it's very dense in character and history, and if you take your time with it, more fulfilling I think because at the last chapter, you feel like you've been on this journey with these characters the entire time.
  • The Silmarillion - J.R.R. Tolkien / A difficult read at times, but on the whole completely beautiful and inspiring, and so worth the effort. I particuarly liked the Ainulindale and the tale of Beren and Luthien.
  • The Vampire Chronicles - Anne Rice / The first five books in the series (Interview With the Vampire, The Vampire Lestat, The Queen of the Damned, and The Tale of the Body Thief, and Memnoch the Devil to some extent) are easily the best of the series, and I would probably say anything prominently featuring Lestat is great because he's such an enigmatic and vibrant character...probably one of the most important to touch that genre in a significant time. However, recently Anne seems to have lost touch with Lestat's voice, and while there are some glimmers and flashes of the true Lestat in recent books, there's probably not enough to satisfy true fans. Still worth a read, because the early stuff is AMAZING.
