| Mortrag ... one can only imagine:
were did it all begin? It started one early morning, in the 04-05
school year at Denny Middle School. Two students, Jory and Tim, were
having a debate. Tim is stupid so he was loosing. Eventually it settled
but Tim's feelings were bitter. Minuets later, Nick, who was sitting
next to Jory, and Jory thought of an interesting idea. What would you
call Spain and Germany if you mixed them together? And thusly Spermany
was borne. Tim, still bitter, said"Spangland is better" and the rest of
first period was speculating whether Spermany or Spaingland would win
in a war. The next milestone was roughly a week later. I had not heard of Spermany but had noticed that a dark shroud was growing over Jory and Tim on the other side of the room, but with Ms. McGuire as the teacher I couldn't investigate in class, and by third period I had already forgotten. On Denny Hill (the hill by the band room), I was standing with Cooper. None of the others were there at the time so I bet there was a band trip. Cooper asked me "Are you in Spermany?" I told him "No." then asked what it was. He told me all about it. He also said he was the admiral and and told me what a few other people were. Well if Jory can start a faction with fancy titles and corny jokes... I thought to myself. Time to get to work! I spent that evening starting my own faction. I was never the type of person to join a club. I guess you could call me power hungry but I would always make my own. I cant stand being at the bottom of the totem, left out of the ring when really important things happen. I also cant stand incompetent leaders. Tim, I knew he would be overrun in a week, even by Jory. Jory, he wasn't doing anything. Just handing out fancy titles and calling it a nation. I was pondering over a name, when I got out my map of Vvardenfell. I looked in the northwest most corner and found Solstheim. There I saw it. The Mortrag Glacier. I knew it was the perfect name. Now I just hope they don't sue me. With a name chosen, I worked on advertising. I printed out 20 Mortrag flyers and handed them to people likely to join. Among those I tried to concentrate my time and effort on people in Spermany. Why? because everyone I wanted to join was in Spermany. In fact, almost all the present members of Mortrag were. My campaign was offensive. "Spermany is run by someone that cant manage a paper route" was what I told cooper. Once I had slightly discredited Spermany, I switched to building up Mortrag. I made good titles, that actually had a rank relative to each other, and tried to offer what I could to people if they joined. The first to convert was Max. He agreed to join before I was finished pitching my slogan to him. Truly he saw something in Mortrag. When I told him his eyes widened and his mouth hung slightly ajar, almost as if he had won the lottery. I don't know if he didn't like Spermany, or if he too wanted something more out of this little game than a fancy name but truly he would be an invaluable asset in my inevitable war against Spermany. When asked about all this he commented "I have too much work to do," but I'm sure he misheard the question. I knew that with Max's many skills, he would be able to help Mortrag in many ways. Not to mention his charisma. So many people just love Max. I would soon realize that he alone could be a reason for people to join Mortrag, for you see, not only do people like Max, but they look up to him. He's respected and trusted. If he joined Mortrag, people would think, than it must be good! Next was Tyler. This one was a little easier because not only was he not in Spermany (he wasn't even at Denny!) but he's my best friend. That conversation went a little like this... "Hey Ty, wana join Mortrag?" "What is it?" "It's kind of a club I'm starting." "Sure" And so Mortrag's number swelled to 3. Shortly after, I believe it was Cooper to join. It might have been when I offered him the same position he had in Spermany, maybe when I explained that I was going to war and I needed his help, but I think it was that Max was with me that tipped the scales. Slowly, with my cutting edge campaign, and with Max and Cooper on my side, I had nearly the entire spectrum class with me. Most of them didn't do anything, but the ones that wanted to helped me plan for the big task: eliminating Spermany. Only Mitchel, the leader (Jory), and a small handful of others were still in Spermany. It was time to strike. Just before we had decided how to attack, I heard something. Jory came up to me in the library and said, "I quit." "What? Surly you must be joking?" I was astounded "No, it's not fun anymore. It's just stupid now." He was serious. In the week that followed, Spermany disbanded. Spangland hadn't been heard from in a month so I assumed Tim had dropped it too. It was the end. Mortrag, without any enemies to pave it's walkway, fell. Now, 6 Months after it all began, Mortrag, rises from the ashes, renewed, and suported once again by the elite few who wanted to take it to the next level, and even some new members (the former leader of Spermany itself even) have done just that. With new supports, and many common grounds to keep the flame burning, Mortrag stands more powerful than ever before, ready to take it to the next level and stay there. -Colter, Nightmare and head of Mortrag |
