Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Rejection Committee

Lets be honest, most of the people in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland don’t actually deserve to be in there.  Some do don’t get me wrong but most, not so much.  So as a public service, our crack team of experts will boot “performers” out of the hall on a weekly basis.

Alright so here’s how it works:  Every Wednesday, Adam, Arica, and Kevin will each oust someone only from the “performers” section of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Every performer must be kicked out for a reason; however, there are no restrictions as to the ridiculousness of the reason.  Each week we will rotate which expert has first crack at removing someone.  Our experts do not discuss their picks with each other prior to the submission.  Once removed the performer will be taken off our list and we will continue to exhaust this list until we ultimately have a sole inductee remaining, the last performer standing will be the only remaining inductee in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Next Rejection Order: Arica Kevin Adam

We have been slackers and have missed a few weeks, instead of starting a bad habit by posting multiple picks we have backlogged a few picks from everyone and hopefully we won’t get too behind anymore.  Sorry again.

This Week’s Rejections:

Adam:          As you may have noticed by now, our rejections come from many different trains of thought.  Sometimes we kick artists out because we don’t like them, other times we have very good reasons for booting people, sometimes we even use ridiculous reasons to kick people out and other times, such as Kevin’s pick last week, we use scientific logic.  I choose to use some technology in my pick tonight.  As a huge hockey fan from Buffalo, I had a rough couple of weeks since my Sabres lost the Eastern Conference Finals to Ottawa, I decided to use this to help me get rid of someone from the Hall of Fame.  I went to Yahoo and searched for “Rock and Roll Hall of Fame” + “Ottawa”, the first site that came back I clicked on, http://www.lycos.com/info/rock-and-roll--fame-foundation.html upon reading through the site I found that the first inductee listed on the site that has not already been kicked out was The O'Jays (55), they are now gone due to their completely random and almost completely non-existent association with the Ottawa Senators.

Arica:          This week I have decided to give the boot to Lloyd Price (56) because even after reading his bio, I still don't know who he is. And in my little game of random selection that's a good a reason as any to kick him to the curb.

Kevin:            Too often in my life, I am told to use a coaster when putting my drink on the table.  What does it matter when the table is from IKEA, cost 25 dollars, and is going to be thrown away when I can afford to buy a nicer one?  I am sure there is a legitimate answer but I don't want to hear it.  Goodbye The Coasters (57).

*** The WGR Rant ***

A few years back Steve Cichon created the rejection committee idea for Mike Schopp’s radio show in WNSA.  After starting the Baseball Hall of Fame rejection Committee, Schopp left WNSA for WGR, eventually Cichon would end up at WBEN, WGR’s sister station.  It was at WGR that Schopp, finally finished the Baseball Hall of Fame Rejection Committee and started fresh with the Football Hall of Fame.  I (Adam Obstein) then asked Cichon and Schopp’s producer at the time, if we could borrow the idea and do the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Rejection Committee on Star 102.5 (WTSS) another sister station.  After being granted permission, this new rejection committee started kicking people out on Wednesday July 5th, 2005.  This sketch ended in mid to late April of the following year because a certain Program Director decided she ran the entire company and wanted me off the air.  The original Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Rejection Committee was killed off with less than 30 members left.  Wanting to finish the bit, I started up this website on January 1st 2007 and restarted the Committee with new members shortly thereafter.  A week into February, WGR’s Schopp and the Bulldog show, stole the Rejection Committee idea back and started kicking people out of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.  Despite the fact that the station is a sports talk station, and a sub par one at that, they have switched their focus to music.  As a hockey fan, I find it rather insulting that they didn’t move on to the next logical Hall, the Hockey Hall of Fame, or even the Basketball Hall, no, they decided to just blatantly steal our variation and make a mockery of it.  WGR, you should be ashamed of yourselves.  I know its hard to be creative but having worked there I know you have a creative staff and you can do better than stealing from former employees.  When you read anything from Morning Show In My Mind you should read the entire page, for instance some of this history is written at the bottom of this page, but if you go back a page to our homepage and read the bottom of that page you will notice our message about copyright and plagiarism.  As I point out there, we try hard to site all of our sources, well you have just read the history, and you now know where the original idea came from.  We had permission and borrowed the idea, we made it ours and they stole it.  If someone tells you to listen to WGR’s bit about kicking people our of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, you can tell them you prefer the original, right here.

*** Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Rejection Committee:  A Look Back ***

The idea for the Rejection Committee was initially thought up by Steve Cichon, at the time, the Program Director for WNSA (107.7FM Radio).  WNSA and later WGR (550AM Radio) rejected inductees from the Football and Baseball Hall of Fames.  It was then that the idea for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Rejection Committee was developed by Adam Obstein for on air use on WGR’s sister station WTSS (Star 102.5FM).  The on air bit had a good run for a while but was eventually cut by forces beyond our control, the committee never finished rejecting the halls inductees.  So now a new committee has been formed to not only equal the task but also hopefully finish it once and for all.  The End.
