A ferocious, snarling rock and roll steamroller
from Blackburn, in the North West of England. Consisting
of Carl Elmer (Drums, Vocals) Chris Dickinson (Guitars,
Keyboards) and Tony Sharples (Bass and Vocals), the
band was formed in December of 2004.
The trio have been
friends for a number of years, and worked together fleetingly
since 2000, but university meant the lads had to put
their plans on hold.
Carl began to cut his teeth with
local bands in Blackburn, while Chris and Tony played
together in the Newcastle and Sunderland area while
at University. Tony and Chris returned in the summer
of 2004 and to find Blackburn, their sleepy northern
town, was finally waking up to live music and Carl was
putting himself at the heart of it all.
Carl opened
Ragtime Studios for the local bands to finally have
somewhere to play and record, and the three found they
had the perfect place to launch themselves and the new
Blackburn music scene. Using the first few months together
to write original songs and develop their sound, Morning
Call was born.
April of 2005 finally saw The Call take
to the stage and unleash their brand of Rock and Roll.
With their influences very much rooted in old school
rock and roll (The Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix) and
indie (The Stones Roses, The Verve) Morning Calls produce
heavy indie rock with a punk edge similar to early Oasis
and BRMC at their most speaker endangering. Sell out
nights followed at Ewood Park and local live venues
such as The Wharf and Charles Napier, with the band
promoting the nights through Carls promotions
business.
Since then, Morning Call have continued to
play and earn a solid fan base and reputation in their
local area, while September saw the start of their monthly
residency at Blackburn Nightspot Jazzy Kex. Having cut
their first demo Mirrors and Smoke EP, Morning
Call are looking to build on their early success by
attracting interest from further afield.
With dates
at the Late Room in Manchester and a return to Ewood
Park in early November, the band are set to go back
into the studio to record a further three songs as their
sound continues to develop.
With a date alongside Peter
Hook of New Order also just confirmed Morning Call are
forging their own path with a lot of hard work determination,
buckets of attitude, and an unshakable faith in their
own brand of Rock and Roll.
