whispers of the heart
Another name for this anime is "Mimi wo Sumaseba" translates to "If  you listen closely."  It's from the Studio Ghibi collection.

This anime movie is about a young 14 year old girl named Tsukishima Shizuku.  She's growing up in the suburb of Tokyo.  She loves to write and read books.  Her favorite place to hang out is at the public library... imagine that!  Well she notices that all the books she checks out are checked out also by a person named Amasawa.  She becomes obsessed with trying to find out who this Amasawa is.

One day when she's on her way to the library to bring her father his lunch, she finds a cat that is traveling by itself.  She becomes intrigued, and follows him when he gets off the train.  The cat leads her to an old antique shop where she meets an old man, the shop owner.  He invites her in, and she sees a cat statue named Baron.  She learns about the statues story, how he came to own it. She falls inlove with this statue (so did I along with the grandfather clock-you will have to watch the anime to see what I mean).

Well she comes back to the antique shop many times, but she finds out that it's closed.  One of the times she sees the cat sitting there by itself and she stops to talk to it, when a boy appears named Seiji.  He invites her inside, saying that the old man is his grandfather.  Later she finds out that he is Amasawa Seiji, the boy who read all the books before her.

He tells her that he wants to become a violin maker when he gets out of school and that he wants to do an apprenticeship in Italy.  Before she knew who he was, they we a little mean to one another, but then they started to like each another.  Later she gets upset thinking she can't like someone who has their dream laid out in front of them when she doesn't have hers, so when he is away on his apprenticship, she challenges herself to writing a story.

Well I don't want to ruin the anime for you by telling you everything that happens.  It's a really great anime in my opinion.  I mean it's kind of slow, but the story is really good.  I would recommend it to anyone who likes inspirational animes.

One last thing.  In whispers of the heart, they sing country road, or it plays in the background.  Shizuku was told to write a Japanese verson of it for one of her classes which if really cool.  I like the soundtrack.  It's great for relaxing!
