Run Lola Run
Feb 21, 2002

In the sweltering heat
and the sad defeat
she rested her head
knowing out there;
in the real world
they cut girls like her
up
for fun.

Run Lola run
her mother said
as she sprinted across
the quiet fields
a hint?
to run and escape
this sad place.

A knock knock on the door
fear, evermore
her father rushed in
and blind-folded her
they cut and cut
to make her perfect, they mummured.

She bled for days
and it hurt
her husband had hurt her
because it was her culture
they cut.

Now the time came
when she had to say
Lola this is enough!
and run she did

Far away from that
but never far enough
from the pain
and scarification that
remains.

Marked forever
just to be
culturally 'right'.
