| It is with great regret that I write to say that my beloved Samantha Marie passed away to Rainbow Bridge on Tuesday July 25, 2006. Samantha had been noticeably sick since October 2005. When I first took her to the vet, she was diagnosed with corneal ulcers and she had some black spots on her belly, which was also really dry. Medicine was given for her eyes and fish oils were added to her meals to assist her skin. In the spring of this year, Sami began losing hair on the back of her neck and her butt, her skin was flaky, her nose was really dry, and she didn't want to eat. Blood tests were taken and she was identified as having Hypothyroidism. Medication was prescribed and she improved greatly. There was spring back in her step, her hair began to grow back and her appetite improved. At the end of June, she began not wanting to eat again. She was looking pretty skinny, but stablized at the weight of 27 lbs. Blood tests were performed again and indicated her thyroid level was too high. She was taken off the thyroid medicine to decrease the level. By July 20th, she started not feeling good. She threw up once each night. On Sunday the 23rd, I stayed with her all day. She threw up various times through the day. By that night, she looked miserable. I left a message at the vet's that I wanted to take her in first thing in the morning. I stayed up with her the whole evening as she moved around the house. Her body was shaking, she threw up all the food she had eaten. She couldn't get comfortable. I took her in to the vet at 8 a.m. He asked me to leave her for the day while they did another blood test. He called to say that the blood test revealed there was something wrong with her liver and he wanted to do a biopsy. After the biopsy he called to say they had drained a gallon of water from her abdomen and that she had heptitis. She was going to stay the night and I would visit her in the morning. At 8 a.m., on Tuesday, July 25th, the vet called to say that earlier in the morning Sami had passed away in her sleep. She died of cirrhosis of the liver. I was devastated to learn that my precious girl was taken from me at such an early age. She must have been suffering greatly, but she did her best to stay with me for as long as she could. She will always be in my heart and I look forward to seeing her again when it is my time to leave Earth. |
