Bring Back Kim, pt. 2

OK, this foreword thing seems to be becoming a regular feature! I'd like to add a "hear hear" to NJJH's comments last week about exams...mine are coming up too, they're seriously important, so if this column doesn't make it every Digest, then please don't stone me by email.

Well, after last week's bad tempered little rant, something more and more viewers seem to be engaging in, what can I offer this week? Ah yes...Kim.

As some of you longtime, regular readers may remember, I did an article some time ago about the particular charms of Dr. Kim Legaspi, also known as Elizabeth Mitchell. In this article, I laid out the many reasons why Kim should come back to ER, stat, not least of which that she's incredibly sexy. ;) And also that together, she and Kerry were, well, amazing. The chemistry...wow.

However, as the more astute among you will have noticed, the long-running site kimandkerry.com, one of the online stalwarts concerning, well, Kim and Kerry, has morphed into Weavered.com, and is now devoted purely to Kerry, ER's chief lesbian. This is a significant move, and all but signifies the end of hopes for a return by Ms. Mitchell to our Thursday night viewing. So, where to go from here?

One thing is for certain, if it was heard that Kim was indeed coming back, then there would certainly be much celebration, certainly round this computer, if nowhere else. This is now a pipe dream, however. There is no longer any talk of contract negotiations, to the best of my knowledge. Elizabeth Mitchell has clearly left ER behind her, and it is time to look to the future, to see where the writers plan to take Kerry now.

Judging from previous form, there surely can't be much hope of anything half decent, so let's turn not to what is likely, because
there are enough reasons to get depressed in the world already. Instead, how about a look at an ideal future for Dr. Weaver.

Firstly, a decent steady relationship, with believable chemistry that goes beyond fun flirtation. Make us believe this is someone Kerry really loves, is attached to. A commitment ceremony would be wonderful. Something showing that two women can stand up and make a very real commitment to one another. Obviously this would have to have some drama, so maybe the argument about "we should do this any way we can, even if it means a ream of papers to give us anything like a marriage commitment, just to show 'them' " versus "we should wait till we can do this legally and be recognized as partners under law, with all the automatic rights that implies". You see? Possibility for conflict. Then how about a baby? Either an adoption or some means of artificial insemination. ER have shown a lesbian couple do this before, even though it was a one-episode sub-plot. It was either season one or two...I'm not too sure. Then we have parenthood stress, plus a look at adoption issues, and the whole second-parent-on-birth/adoption-certificate merry-go-round. Fun, fun, fun.

This would provide a chance for ER to show off some brilliant writing, plus give them opportunity to really do something with Kerry. There isso much potential, so I'm sure you can forgive me frustration-venting à la last issue. Until next week, enjoy your ER!
