One aspect of Chalupa life which I've seen discussed elsewhere in the ER world is our ongoing campaign to "Bring Back Kim". Kim is, of course, Dr. Kimberley Legaspi, last seen in Rampage, the last episode of S7. The blonde psychiatrist was played by Elizabeth Mitchell, who has also been seen in Gia, Nurse Betty and the ill-fated The Beast, and who happens to be immensly sexy. (Always a useful quality when trying to win over a host of lesbians).
The contract fortunes of Ms. Mitchell have been possibly the most agonizing and drawn out drama to be played out on DtC ever, and bear in mind all the Kerry-angst that could possibly compete for this title. So, here is what is known (or at least fairly sure). At the end of S7, the plan was to bring her back, set her back up with Kerry (maybe with Sandy in between(No, not like that, although now you mention it...)) and have the two wonder off into the sunset of lesbian bliss, tackling some gay rights issues along the way, such as parenting and the like. But then look what happened...Anthony Edwards, Eriq La Salle and Erik Palladino all up sticks and leave, along with Ming-Na and Goran Visjnic's leaves of absence and Sherry Springfield's return, and it's no wonder Dr. Kim got lost in amongst all the plot problems this created.
So, at the time of writing, we know nothing. To the best of our knowledge, EM has no contract with NBC or Warner Brothers. True, some of our contract sources have dried up, but still, nothing. The rumors were for a February return, way back last summer and fall, but on the basis of spoilers recieved for forthcoming episodes, this now looks very unlikely. Trust me, no spoiler source would dare risk the wrath of many angry Chalupas and withhold this if they knew. And if anyone out there does know, you know who to tell.
But why? Why are we so keen to see Kim come back? Well, it's not just because she lights up any screen she's on. It's because she and Kerry together light up the screen. While the point has been made that Laura Innes could have chemistry with a tree, such is her acting talent (you don't believe me? I refer you to "Be Still My Heart" from S6, "A Walk In The Woods", from S7 - for the KK chemistry and "A River In Egypt" from S8). But when she's with Elizabeth Mitchell, you can almost see the sparks. These two have something special when they work together. This can be seen at the start of, for example, "The Greatest Of Gifts", from S7, when Kim comes down to the ER for a consult. Look at how Kerry's face lights up as she says "hi Kim", and the easy magnetism between the two as they exchange general banter. Again, at the start of "Walk In The Woods" comes many Chalupa's favorite scene ever: the palm kiss. The love, passion and sheer eroticism in this is beyond words, and an excellent portrayal of why we want Kim back.
We want her back because she was good for Kerry, she was good for us, she and Kerry were great together, and damn it, she's sexy as hell. Whether we'll get what we want remains to seen.
