Hey there, and welcome to the inaugaral 'Chalupa Chat'. I know, unimaginative title, but all my inspiration is currently being expended on my English Literature assignment. Anyone with the inside scoop on either 'The Crucible' or 'The Scarlet Letter' email me now.
But I digress. So, Drop The Chalupa. Who/what are we? Well, first and foremost, ER fans. Some would use the title ER obsessives. But not us - we're not obsessed, just focussed. To be precised, focussed on Kerry Weaver, Kim Legaspi (the hot blonde from psych from S7) and currently Sandy Lopez. So, yes, all things lesbian. If that scares you, run now. Run for the hills. Basically, we're thrilled to see these issues portrayed in a generally positive manner on one of the biggest shows in the US. The mainstream media has shown something of a reluctance to sample the other side of the coin, so for ER to do this is immensley brave, and encouraging to us as a minority group. Yep, most of us are lesbians, as you would expect, and our interests are not purely aesthetic. ;) Although we are extremely interested in some of the spoilers floating around for "Beyond Repair". (At the time of writing, this episode had not aired)
We're keen to see ER tackle issues key to lesbian life, and have high hopes for the way TPTB will do this. Why that should be so, on what they've given us so far this season, is beyond most people, but nonetheless, we live in hope.
So, what do we actually get up to? Well, there's something for everything. Spoiler discussion threads, episode discussion threads, a daily thread to share your life in general, vent and gratitude threads, and various others. One particularly popular thread right now, currently in it's second incarnation (at over 2000 posts, the first one was really a bit too big), is a charming little game whereby one person gives a song title, for example, "Rescue Me", then the next person posts a title containing one (or more) words from the previous title. So, "Rescue Me" could be followed by "Loving You, Loving Me", and so on. We're currently up to over 3500 titles overall, with very little repition. Try it, it's fun.
Well, that's a potted guide to Chalupa. In future columns, I'll look in more detail at all things Chalupa, including the still-popular "Bring Back Kim" campaign, and what we really think of TPTB. Till then, why not come see for yourself. It's fun.
