The Final Fantasy Legacy

So you have heard about final fantasy seven and eight, and if you are lucky you may even know about final fantasy 9,10 and 11 but what do you know about their prequals:

The history: Way back in around 1987 a small struggling little known company called squaresoft known only by a early racing creation called Rad Racer in a last ditch effort decided to release an RPG to hopefully rival the great dragon quest series by Enix. This led to the release of Final fantasy 1 a game which little was expected of but gave a great deal.

Final Fantasy 1: This game was one of the first games for the NES to be contained on a 2MB cartridge and one of the best. In this the first installment in the Final Fantasy Series players were transported to a time wwhere pirates ruled the seas and evil creatures covered the Earth. In this game the power of the four element were bound by four crystal orbs. However as time passed these orbs began to fade and as they faded an evil darkness began to spread across the Earth. These evil forces began to spread with only the coming of the four light warriors being able to save the world from darkness. When the daughter of the king of Coneria was kidnapped it was up to these four warriors each of whom owned a strange orb to save the world from the powers of evil.

Although nothing special by todays standard at the time it was a master piece containing a stunning score a clever game system and a vast plot. Final fantasy 1 was a huge success in Japan and was subsequently released in the U.S where it received a degree of success.

Final Fantasy 2: After the success of Final Fantasy 1 it seemed only natural for a sequel and sure enough in 1988 Final Fantasy 2 arrived however unlike most sequels apart from the game system final fantasy 2 was a complete departure from it's prequel in terms of plot making it a unique game in its own right. Again Final Fantasy 2 was a master piece featuring spell bounding music and stunning graphics. In this title the power hungry Emperor of the Paramekian Empire has turned to dark magic to summon evil monsters. The kingdom of Phin was eventually destroyed by these monsters with only four warriors attempting to escape but being attacked by the imperial Horseman and almost killed. However saved from death by the healer Minh, three of the companions find them selves involved in a rebellion organised by Princess Hilda of Phin ( final fantasy 8 tones anyone). Final fantasy 2 introduced severall enemies and themes that can be recognised from the later games such as the appearance of Chocobos and severall magic abilities such as Toad, mini, ultima and meteor at also saw the arrival of the water creature Leviathan and the dragon Bahamut as well as common enemies such as bombs and behemoths.

Final Fantasy 3: Two years later in 1990 Final fantasy 3 arrived and by this time it was one of the most anticpated games around, this was also the last game to appear on the now dated looking NES making way for the age of the 16-bit consoles. Even though on a dated looking console Squaresoft got the most possible out of the NES using a 4MB cartridge resulting in the best looking graphics so far and yet again a masterful story and music score. This was possibly the closest thing to a true sequel as the plot was very similar to the previous two games with four orphans exploring a cave where they discover the lost wind crystal which tells them that they are o the choosen ones and must defend the world against the coming evil the wind crystal then grants each of them a special power thus making them become light warriors. In Final fantasy 3 Moogles made there first appearance you may remember them from the nut game at the gold saucer in Final Fantasy 7 along with the new spells Shiva, Ramuh, Ifrit and most of the rest.
