Final fantasy legacy page two
Welcome to page two of my over view of the final fantasy games. O.K lets get straight into it:
Final Fantasy 4: By now (1991) Squaresoft had become recognised as one of the leading games companies in Japan and as one of the most respected. This reputation was not let down by the release of final fantasy 4 the second game of the series to be released in the U.S ( inconveniantly named Final Fantasy two thus starting two different numbering policy) and the first final fantasy game to be released on the SNES. Squaresoft did not disapoint with this extra space and used the SNES's 8MB cartridge to good use thus producing a vastly superior game in terms of graphics and sound. This extra space was also used to produce one of the most imaginative storylines so far. The story begins with the player cast as Cecil a dark Knight and captain of the Red wings, an elite force of military airships in the kingdom of Baron. When Cecil begins to question the desire of his king to capture the elemental crystals he is sent to a nearby town with a package. When this package explodes almost killing him, after this Cecil and his friend Kain vow to get their revenge on the king and set off on a fight against the kingand his power mad obsessions.
Final Fantasy 5: A year and a half later Square returned with the release of Final Fantasy 5 by now people were questioning square ability to maintain there high standards of RPG's with final fantasy 5 the answer was yes. Probably the most adult themed of the final fantasy games and darkest with severall key characters dying. Final fantasy 5 was probably one of the best games of the series to be released. The story begins with the King of Tycoon sensing something is wrong and going to visit the shrine of the wind crystal. Only when he arrives the wind shatters into hundreds of pieces and dies. Soon after a comet hits the Earth and the game begins. In this game you take the role of Butz a young adventurer who gets himself and his friends involved in a story of epic proportions spanning three worlds with his role being to sort everything out. One of the reasons the story was so downbeat and dark was due to the head villian perhaps one of the most insane and devious villians ever to have graced a Final fantasy game( think Sepiroth but much worse). A new feature of this game was the ability and job system where players would choose certain jobs to be learnt by characters which in turn helped you customise you party and thier abilities.
Final Fantasy 6: Another eighteen months later the Final Fantasy saga continued with the release of Final Fantasy 6. Final fantasy 6 was a 24MB cartridge for the SNES and put the SNES's capabilities to the max using every bit of power they could even today it looks good (think Alundra but rougher round the edges) with bright colours accopanying a great soundtrack and storyline. Final fantasy 6 was the first game to blend magic with technology to great affect and begins in a world almost destroyed a thousand years before by technological advancements and magic and ancient beings called Espers. Now a new civilisation has arisen where technology and science work together and magic is nothing but a distant evil. The story begins as you playing as a girl called Terra working for the Empire who have sent some soldiers to a mining village where it is reported that a esper has been found when you get there everyone around you dies living only you. When you awake you realise that the Empire has been controlling all your thoughts and your mind this is only the start of the story which contains about 75 hours of game play and multiple plots and themes. This is probably one of my favourite Final Fantasy games. Final fantasy 6 incorperated many of the magic, icons , menu systems that can be seen in the last two and set the standard for the new breed of final fantasy games.
