FRY CARE

So you want to know a thing or two about caring for your fry? Well then you have come to the right place.

WATER

Water changes are needed but are done a bit different from those done on an adult tank. Now you need a piece of airline tubing also a piece of rigid tubing work well. If you use the air tubing to siphon out water in the tank full of fry you will need to filter the intake. You know the screens on your window. You can go to the hardware store and buy a small square of it. Place the screen on the end of the tubing. Suck only the gunk off the bottom of the tank and replace the water with aged treated water. I would never do more than a 25% water change on a fry tank. Try if you can try to match the pH of the old water to that of the new water that way the fry will not get stressed. Make sure to put in water with the same temperature as the tank water and add the new water SLOWLY. This way if you do have a variance of pH or temperature, the changes will not be abrupt hence it won't kill fry. Fry are extremely sensitive in the 1st month so if you can, avoid water changes all together as long as you can.

FEEDING

Possibly the most important aspect of care you can give to your fry. It is extremely important to use live foods. Micro worms are an ideal fry food for many reasons and can be fed to the fry on the 2nd and 3rd day of life. Micro worms are easy to culture and I even sell starter cultures so you can get your babies off to the right start like I do. You can also feed infusoria, which is a bacteria culture that are grown by leaving old cabbage leaves in aged water. One thing to remember here is that a starved fry is a stunted fry. If you have a spawn of around 50 babies then it is not a bad idea to add about 1,000 micro worms or so to your tank each day. Well who wants to count that =)? Instead just be sure that the bottom of the fry tank is very clean of dead food or waste. And be sure to keep either micro worms or vinegar eels in the water at all times. Make it so they don’t have to waste too much energy looking for the food. Remember we want them to get big and grow really nice fins so they should devote all the energy they can to it right?

Now what? Well lots of attention care. Try not to overfeed and just keep your loved ones i.e. (fry) healthy. And don't let them play in the street and try to keep them away from those bigger fry that hang out in those dark corners and do things our honorable fry would not =)
