The Bands- Page 2

Five Iron Frenzy

Genre:  Ska (third-wave punk-ska)
Official Website:  http://www.fiveironfrenzy.com
Discography:  It's Funny but Not Very Creative!!! (vinyl 1997), Upbeats and Beatdowns (1997), Miniature Golf Courses of America Present Five Iron Frenzy (vinyl, 1997), Our Newest Albulm Ever! (1997), Brad Is Dead (vinyl, 1998), Quanity Is Job 1 (EP, 1998), Proof that the Youth Are Revolting (live, 1999)
Comments:  One word: FUN!  These guys are utterly crazy!  Their songs are fun, fast, and funny.  This third wave punk-ska reminds me alot of Less Than Jake.  Their songs sometimes focus on the funnier aspects of life, especially of rock 'n' roll super stars like themselves (eating moldy bread off the floor of the tour van, being rumored to be dead on the internet, being tear gassed by Denver police, etc.) but take it all in stride  I saw them in concert once, and they are crazy.  They came out with paper bags on their head, calling themselves Fishbone and playing a bunch of weird songs, to open for themselves!  Then after a quick costume changed they came out dressed in Star Trek gear and played the rest of the show; they crowd went crazy (but that's a different story).  I dare you to find a crazier, funnier, better-sounding group of guys (and one girl)!

The Supertones

Genre:  Ska (third-wave skacore/pop-ska/ska-rap)
Official Website:  http://www.supertones.com
Discography:  The Adventures of the O.C. Supertones (1996), Supertones Strike Back (1997), Chase the Sun (1999)
Comments:  The Supertones (a.k.a. The O.C. Supertones [a.k.a. The Orange County Supertones]) are one of those bands that just make you wanna get up a skank (or dance for you non-skasters).  Their entire sound is driven by so much energy and excitement.  Their first CD was a little rough around the edges but showed potential, and after the addition of a trombone player, some practice, and better producing, The Supetones struck back with a vengence of their sophomore release appropiately named "Supertones Strike Back."  The expanded their horizons on their last CD added a little more pop-type stuff to their already wicked combination of ska, rock, and rap (mostly ska though).  This is another band that has really matured from their early days (but their still awesome to see in concert, really good to mosh to).

Stavesacre

Genre:  Hardcore/heavy rock
Official Website:  http://www.stavesacre.com
Discography:  Friction (1996), Absolutes (1997), Speakeasy (1999)
Comments:  These guys are just plain good.  Originally dubbed hardcore, Stavesacre has broken musicall rules and created their own unique sound.  They have a rock sound that you'll love because its a heavier than most but also can have quieter moments.  Their lastest CD sounds alot like some of Creed's stuff . . . only better.  They're also really into effects, especially vocal.  At first (on the first two CD) it's a little annoying, but then it gets kinda cool.. On the new CD it's not used as much, and when it is, it sounds good.  Over their three CD's they've changed their style and members, but the new sound is really tight.  Words cannot fully explain.  You have to hear them for yourself.  Check 'em out!

Value Pac

Genre:  Punk (pop punk)
Official Website:  http://home.earthlink.net/~nxmx/valuepac/
Discography:  Value Pac (1996), Jalepeno (1997)
Comments:  Another great band from Orange County!  Another great pop punk band!  Value Pac has gone through a lot.  They lost their drummer, then another the singer/guitar decided to call it quits after only second CD, but now they're back and better than ever!  They have a really catchy pop sound, but you still know they punk.  Kinda comparable to Blink 182, whom they're good friends with.   They're crazy and funny, but great musicians, too!  How perfect is that?!  Watch for their new stuff whenever it comes out.

The W's

Genre:  Swing (Retro-swing/hyper-swing)
Official Website:  http://www.thews.org
Discography:  Fourth from the Last (1998), The Trouble with X (1999)
Comments:  Swing has been making a comeback lately, and one of the bands right there in the midst is The W's.  Hailing from Denver, Colorado, they are good friends with Five Iron Frenzy who can be compared to each other very well.  Both are groups of crazy, fun-loving guys (and don't forget Jeff, the girl, in FIF) that really know how to play their instruments.  I mean seriously, these guys have talent and are by no doubt the most musical of any of the bands listed here.  But don't expect any slow big band swing outta these swingers.  They'll bowl you right over with their catchy lyrics, insane tempos, and awesome horn performances (especially the trumpet).  These cats can't be beat 'cause they're just so muh darn fun!

The Insyderz

Genre:  Ska (Third-wave ska-core)
Official Website:  http://www.theinsyderz.com
Discography:  Motor City Ska (1996), Skalleluia! (cover, 1997), Paradise (single, 1998), Fight of My Life (1998), Skalleluia, Too! (cover, 1999)
Comments:  The Insyderz (Yes, that's how you spell it.) are yet another of the Big Three ska bands (The Supertones, Five Iron Frenzy, and The Insyderz) that have their own unique style.  Their style is a little less heavy than The Supertones, but their more constant whereas The Supertones have some quieter songs.  Both Skalleluia! and Skalleluia, Too! are  The Insyderz's take on some traditional hymns.  In other words, they've been kinda skanktafied, very cool.  They jump around alot in concert, too.  (They're also friends with Dennis Rodman so watch out!)
