| IN THE KITCHEN |
| Mealtimes are fun times and educational times. We practice our manners, passing food between each other in kid-friendly serving containers, cleaning up after ourselves. I use colorful dishes, placemats, and self service pitchers for milk and juice, hoping to encourage the children to have pride in being able to 'do it themselves'. I try to work in a snack or meal where the kids can help put their own food together, like monkey treats (pb covered bananas rolled in rice krispies), banana split cereal, crackers-meat-cheese, and others. I use the USDA food guidelines while planning weekly menus and avoid processed foods. For infants, I make my own baby food from whole foods, like fresh bananas, apples, sweet potatoes, peas, green beans, peaches, etc... unless parents supply this. |
