Chapter 26
AJ felt bad about telling Serenity he couldn�t help her but he also felt he had to get her out of his life. Because even though she was no longer around she still held a place in his heart. Which was worse then her actually being there. He couldn�t just kick her out. He couldn�t go on wanting something he couldn�t have. And he would never get over her with her still coming around all the time.
It had been two weeks since he had spoken to Serenity and now he was about to go on a date. Brian had set him up with a girl he had grown up with in Kentucky. She was new to California and she didn�t know many people. AJ had told Brain that he didn�t feel like dating but Brain insisted in trying to help him find someone.
As he approached the women�s door he held the flowers up and pushed the doorbell. A short brunet answered. She had long, curly, dark brown hair and she had freckles that lightly graced the sides of her nose.
�Hello.� She said as she looked up at him. �Hi, Julia?� He question making sure it was the women he was taking out. �Yes, AJ. It�s nice to meet you.� She said giving him a light hug. �Oh flowers, for me? You shouldn�t have.� She told him as she took the flowers. �I�ll be right back, I�m going to go put these in some water.� She said as she disappeared from the front door. She came back ten seconds later with her purse in hand. She wore a long flower print dress with a single gold cross dangling from her neck. AJ couldn�t help to think her dress looked like something that had come out of 50's.
When they arrived at the restaurant they ended up ordering the same thing. AJ figured maybe that was a good sign. Maybe she was really cool, she just had bad fashion since.
�So what do you do?� He asked her. �Right now I�m in college. I�m studying to be a teacher. I love kids.�
�Really, that�s cool.�
�Yeah, I taught the kids Sunday school class at my church when I was younger. My dad really wanted me to stay. He was nervous about me coming here, but Brain kind of calmed him down.�
�Oh, is your dad a teacher also?�
�No, he�s a pastor.�
AJ chocked on his water when he heard the words. �Are you okay?� She asked him. �Oh yeah, I�m fine. It just went down the wrong way.� He told her wiping his mouth with his napkin. �So your dad is a pastor in Kentucky?� He asked.
�Yeah, I�m surprised Brain didn�t tell you. So anyway, what church do you attend?�
� Church? Umm, well I use to go to church a lot when I lived in Florida I guess, but right now I�m not a member of any.�
�Oh.� She said as she put food into her mouth.
The rest of the evening was spent with Julia reciting scriptures and trying to convert AJ even though he had already told her he believed in God.
That night he went home feeling exhausted from his date.
