Chapter 24
�So let me get this straight. She comes over in the middle of the night. She stays the whole night with you on the couch...�
�Which was completely innocent.� AJ but in. �Yeah, and then the next morning she seems all lovely dovey and then she blows up when you mention her new boyfriend?� Nick asked as he stretched his legs.
Brain, Kevin, AJ and Nick had all decided to go to the gym to work out. Howie had to take care of some business matters so he hadn�t joined them.
�Yeah.� AJ confirmed.
�There is something defiantly up with that. Something�s not right with her. Girls only get defensive like that when there trying to hide something. She�s trying to cover something up about him that she doesn�t want you to know.�
�You think so?� AJ asked Nick as he lifted the light weights in his hands.
�Please, tell me you are not taking relationship advice from Nick.� Kevin said as he passed by them.
�Hey I know about girls.� He retorted.
�Yeah, this coming from a guy who at one point forgot he even had a girlfriend.� Brain said looking over at him as he walked a fast pace on a treadmill.
�Hey, that was not my fault. I e-mailed her. It wasn�t my fault her internet service stop working. And I felt really bad that she came to greet me at the airport after all those months.� Nick told Brain.
�That�s not the point Nick. The point is, you don�t break up with someone through e-mail. You broke up with her computer, not her.� Brian told him as he rolled his eyes.
�Hey, I regret that. It wasn�t like we were all close and stuff. We had even been talking about maybe seeing other people a while before I even sent her that e-mail. She knew we weren�t going anywhere. We had only been together for like, two months anyway.�
�Whatever.� Kevin said rolling his eyes now. �AJ don�t listen to Nick, just please. Get advice from someone else.�
�No, but I think Nick might have something. I get the feeling that she might be hiding something. Or, not so much as hiding, just not saying something. Something about Randy.� AJ told them, looking thoughtful. �Umm AJ, that would be hiding something. She�s lying to you man.� Nick replied.
�She is not lying. She�s just not telling me something about him.�
�That�s lying by omission, same thing. A lie is a lie. I say you just leave the chick alone all together. I mean, she can�t have her cake and eat it too, right? Just as soon as something goes wrong in her life she thinks she can run to you. You can�t keep on letting her use you like that.�
�But she�s not using me. She just wanted someone to talk to.�
�Then why couldn�t she talk to her brother? Why couldn�t she talk to a friend or dial up her mother? AJ she�s using you. You have to let her know that your not always going to be there for her. Show her she just can�t pop in and out of your life whenever she wants or feels the need to. When everything is going good for her she doesn�t even think about you. Not one phone call, or even a letter. Then when she�s down and out she acts like you guys are best friends. I�m telling you, your better off without her. You don�t need that kind of thing in your life, especially now that your over her. If she�s going to be out of your life then she needs to be out of it for good. She can�t be on both sides of the line. She has to pick a side and stay there. If you ask me, your just better off without her. I mean she�s caused you nothing but pain. Just let her go.� Nick told him.
It took AJ a little while to digest some of what Nick was saying to him, but some of it actually sounded like good advice. He was right, AJ thought. Serenity was only around when she was in need. AJ loved helping her but whenever he was around her and then she went away he was the one left feeling bad. And it seemed as though he was just getting his heart broken all over again. Like how he was thinking about her right now and how he was trying to figure out what was wrong with her.
It wasn�t up to him to figure her out. He shouldn�t even be worrying about her now. She was no longer apart of his life. Nick was right, he needed to distance himself from her or it would just keep going on this way. He really needed to pull away from her. �Your right.� AJ announced to Nick.
Brain and Kevin both turned to look at him. �I do need to stop being around her. Stop letting her make me all crazy.�
�Yeah, your better off.� Nick said as he got on a tread mill next to Brian.
�Why don�t you just try talking to her? Let her know you want to help her.� Kevin told him.
�I�ve tried that Kevin, believe me. Whenever I try talking to Serenity we just end up getting in a huge argument. Besides, it�s not up to me to help her. Not anymore it�s not.� He told them as he picked up heavier weights.
