Greedy, The Seventh Dwarf (A modern Fairy Tale)
                                    copywritten 2004 Monica Olson

Once upon a time in a land far away there lived a young dwarf by the name of Greedy. He lived with his father, King Maximilian and six brothers Sloppy, Stinky, Nosey, Grabby, Jumpy, and Butch. They resided in the heart of the city where the streets were paved in gold. There they lived in a beautiful white castle. His father owned several factories which manufactured products such as weapons of mass destruction, swords, armor, cars, and computer hardware. He was a great entrepeneur. The king believed that in order to be succsessful, a company had to keep costs at a minimum with hiring of servants who were cheap labor and sold poor quality products. He also believed in the happiness of his people. Inevitably, his childrenwould inherit the business so he taught them the ins and outs of running it.

Eventually, as his sons grew up, Maximilian soon learned that they had other plans for their future. In fact, Greedy, the youngest of the seven dwarfs wanted to be just like his father. Overjoyed, Maximilian took Greedy under his wing. On the day of Greedy's birth of one and twenty, Maximilian handed the family business over to him. In honor of his father's gift, Greedy threw an unforgettable party in the grande ball room. He hired The Piper's Three and several women of ill repute for his fathers pleasure. Sadly that very night the king died. With his dying breath, he made Greedy promise that no matter what happens, always look after the peasants and keep them happy. With unshed tears, Greedy kissed his father goodbye.

In the beginning Greedy worked hard to keep his promise to his father, but in time life was becoming very boring and he decided it was time to have a little fun. Unfortunately, Greedy spent more time having fun then working. He was spending money everywhere on his new nasty habits, like driving fast carriages and picking up fast peasant women. Furthermore he was becoming  obssessed with gambling and chasing the Magic Dragon. Slowly, Greedy's personality began to change as well. After having his servants wait on him hand and foot, Greedy would stomp around the castle, complaining how lazy they were. Shocked by their masters behavior, they ran to their rooms in fear. Greedy loved the powere he had over them. However, for him power was not enough, he wanted more. Selfishly, he would force his way into the peasant's homes and take away their most prized possessions. The people felt let down. They could not believe that their new king was so much different then his father before him. Throughout the city, Greedy became known as the very selfish dwarf.

In time things got worse. Greedy began to argue with everybody, even his own brothers when they came to visit. Appalled by his behavior, Nosey tried to talk sense into him. "Greedy" Nosey exclaimed, "you must desist in your outragious behavior, listen to me. You are spending way too much money. The castle is falling to ruin, the factories are running low on funds, and the peasants are beginning to have food shortages". Taken aback by his brothers outburst, Greedy walked out of the room without saying a word. Later on that evening, Nosey saw Greedy sneaking something into the castle. The next day, as Greedy was coming out of his castle, he saw Princess Blue Bell across the street. Seeing her for the first time and how beautiful she was, he decided he wanted to get to know her better.
