Chapter 11
"Hey baby," he opened his door and dragged me in for a kiss.
"Hey," I smiled. Becoming the person I was again before this whole thing happened.
"I felt worried when you left like that... what happened?" he asked, his arms around me, kissing my neck.
A frog hopped in my throat as I thought of something to say. "I think I have a bit of a cold, its cool though, Jim." I said, walking into his kitchen, pulling out a Tylenol from his cupboard.
"A cold? Are you serious?" he asked. I nodded. "Well, I've got good medicine for that..." he said, searching in his fridge.
I laughed. "And whats that?" He turned to me and pulled me in, slightly chuckling.
"Its over in my bedroom, wanna come see?" he winked.
I smiled, then remembered the reason why I was here. "I wouldn't want you to catch my cold, baby." I said, taking some Dymetap.
"Aww, I don't care. I would ask to be killed for a kiss from you. . . or anyother things from you." He smirked.
I laughed. "Jimmy, babe, one day this is all gonna come back in your face.." I winked. He smiled, ruffling his hair as the phone rang.
"I'll get it," he said. I began to make myself a sandwich as I overheard the conversation on the phone. "Hello? ... Yeah, hey whatsup? ..." I smiled at his casuality. "... Yeah, she's right here... ok, one sec." He took the phone from his ear and handed it to me. "For you, its Flora."
I nodded, worried that she may have gotten a call from the doctor and worried about what the doctor had said. "Hello?" I choked out.
"Hey, whatcha doin there?" she said in a casual voice then put her voice down immediately. "You didn't tell him did you?"
"No," I said, trying to make my sandwich and hold the phone at the same time. Jimmy smiled at me, pushing me to the side so he could make the sandwich for me.
"I'm coming over there."
Chapter 12
"Why?" I asked, worried at the tone of her voice.
"The girls and I are going to take him off of your hands." she said, giggling.
"What are you guys planning?"
"Nothing nothing, its just we feel kinda burnt after what happened today, so we wanna come visit. Tell him not to eat anything, we're taking him out to dinner." she said into the phone then began to talk to waht sounded like Fawn. "Yeah, and tell him baby Meg is coming too, alright?"
"What the hell is this an ambush?" I laughed. Jimmy looked up at me, smiled, and then went to the fridge and got a coke.
"See ya in like, 20 minutes, alright? Later babes, feel better."
"Ya, I gotcha." I hung up.
"What was up with that?" the young man I now call boyfriend asked, handing me my plate and Coke.
"You've got 20 minutes. Audra, Flora, and Fawn are picking you up and taking you out to eat." I said, sitting at the table and eating.
"Wait, wait... are you coming?"
"Nope, but you remember that baby I sat one time?"
"Yeah?"
"She's gonna be there too." We laughed.
"How does it taste?" he wiggled his eyebrows at me and I laughed.
"Anything tastes good when it comes from you, Jim." I winked.
Chapter 13
I stared at them as they got in the car. They had been gone for hours, I was worried. They were laughing and enjoying themselves, as Jimmy carried the now able to speak Megan out of the car, kissing her forehead. My heart warmed, as I thought of what he would do with out kids.
No, Cat, what kids? Your not pregnant.
I heard the loud music of P.O.D. "Alive" coming from the car, as I unlocked the door and let them in, their voices filling Jimmy's once silenced house. I smiled at Flora, Fawn, and Audra, and quickly kissed Megan and Jim. Jimmy winked at me and went to the couch.
"I got worried," I said as they all had a seat on his couch.
Jimmy smiled. "You would not believe how strange your friends are."
I laughed, sitting on his lap. "Actually, I think I would."
Fawn was on the floor laughing. We waited for her to speak. "In... in the car...." she started laughing all over again.
I couldn't help but laugh, she was out of control. "Can someone please tell me what happened?" I smiled.
Audra laughed. "We were in the car and Megan was sitting on Jimmy's lap and she was like 'BEEPER! BIG BEEPER!' and she grabbed Jimmy's nuts!"
I burst out laughing. Jimmy blushed. "It wasn't that funny. . ." he said, biting his thumb. God, he's sexy.
"So, what else did you guys do?" I asked, wishing badly I had been there.
"Oh, we went to Burger King." I laughed. "It was really good, actually. And then we went shopping for some baby stuff." Fawn said.
My heart stopped and my mouth gaped open as I tried to get words out. Had they told him? Oh my God. "Baby stuff?" I managed to choke out.
Audra noticed my sweaty palms immediately. "Yeah, Cat. For Megan, yknow?"
I nodded. "Right," I said then giggled, relieved.
Chapter 14
"So, how'd the shopping go?" I asked. We were alone again.
"I dunno, it was fun, I guess." he shrugged. His towel was wrapped around his waist and he was drying his hair with another towel.
"You guess? What, you wouldn't want a kid?" I asked, trying to get into his head.
He raised an eyebrow up at me. "Those are the exact words that came out of Audra's mouth today," he said, closing the master bathroom door to get changed as I laid on his bed.
"Really? That's strange." I said. Hey, I'm an actress. I can make these things believable. "But you didn't answer my question." I smiled as he got out of the washroom in a wife beater and pajama pants.
"Your beautiful." he whispered, staring at me from the bathroom door.
I nearly melted. "Jimmy, you're trying to get off the subject aren't you?" I laughed.
He laughed with me. "I don't see why we should talk about it though. . ." he said, sitting beside me then laying his head on my lap. I played with his hair as he spoke to me softly, whispering "I love you, you know that, Cat. A baby is a whole other thing. It's another life. It's something you will love more than life itself. I don't know if I would be able to take the worry or the struggle of having a child y'know?" He looked up at me, obviously waiting for a reaction. I had none. I instead looked down at him and smiled.
"That's exactly what I was thinking, Jimmy." I smiled.
He chuckled, grabbing the remote from me. I laughed. "Oh, how are ya feeling?" he said, getting up and feeling my forehead.
"Oh, much, much better." I smiled, realizing that every word out of that sentence was a lie.
Chapter 15
"I don't know what to do," I spoke to Audra in a tone of voice that told her I was being serious.
"We're here," I heard Fawn knocking on the door. I quickly opened it. They hugged me and I didn't want to let go really.
"I'm getting the call today... I wanted you guys to be here when we celebrate." I smiled, trying to make myself feel better. "And so, I went out and bought whatever I could to make this a party." I smiled. I walked them to the kitchen and showed the chips and dip and fruits and veggies, and of course: The Champagne. After all, how can you celebrate without champagne. I was trying to make myself feel more confident that I wasn't pregnant. The girls noticed, of course. I wouldn't have gone all out for nothing.
It was such a nervous feeling, realizing that the call that would set me to ease was hopefully minutes away. I knew I wasn't pregnant, I can't be.
"So, what are ya gonna do when ya find out your not pg?" Fawn asked, eating a Bar-B-Que chip. It crunched in her mouth and she licked her fingers.
"I'm going to call Jimmy up and party of course, and most of all. I've learnt my lesson guys. I'm gonna be a helluva lot more safe when I'm with Jimmy. He might not like it, but fuck him right?" I laughed.
"Right," They screamed together, then laughed.
"Yknow what?" Flora asked. "This looks like one of those scene's in the movies. Where all the girls come together, and its all about girl power and..." we stared at her.
Then burst out laughing. I was feeling so much better, when the phone rang. My heart leaped up. "This is it girls, get the champagne ready!" I said, then picked it up on the second ring, reading the caller ID that said it was from St.Anne's Hospital. "Hello?"
"Hello, is this Catherine Ferry?" the woman's voice on the other line said.
I saw Flora giggle at one of Fawn's jokes and used my hands to quiet them down. Audra picked up the champagne bottle and got it ready. "This is she."
"Yes, Miss. Ferry, I'm calling to confirm for you that you are pregnant. Congratulations."
Chapter 16
It rang in my head. "Congratulations." As if it were a good thing. I listened to her talk about how she could be my gynecologest and she mumbled things about costs and finally I heard her say: "Aren't you that girl from Saturday Night Live?"
I stared at the phone. "Yes." I muttered.
"Oh, wow. You don't sound good darling, are you alright? Weren't you expecting this? Do you know who the father is?"
"Yes" I whispered, not wanting to turn around to look at the girls, knowing exactly what expression I'd see on their faces.
"Well, we're going to have to take some more tests. So, if you could bring in the father tomorrow at 8:00A.M., we can do some more tests and figure some things out. Are you sure you're alright, Miss Ferry?" she asked, barely being polite.
"I'm fine." I said, and hung up. "I'm fine," I whispered over and over again, finally crying.
"Oh, fuck." I heard Fawn say as I turned around.
"I'm pregnant." I said clearly, as if they hadn't known. "For the next nine months, I'm gonna be a fat fucking bitch who won't get her period. I'm gonna have to fucking see a doctor everyday to make sure this fucking thing living inside of me will come out of my damn pussy alright." I was raising my voice. "And the worst thing is, I'm going to have to tell Jimmy."
"Oh, Cat..." Audra whispered.
"I never thought you would be the first one of all of us to get pregnant, Kitty.. I figured it'd be Fawn," Flora smiled, trying to lighten up the atmosphere.
Fawn gave her a quick dirty look then stared back at me. "Cat, think of it this way.You are going to have a child. Your going to be there when she learns to tie her shoes, or goes to kindergarten. Your gonna be there when your daughter comes home crying because she got a B- on her test, and your going to smile and say 'its alright'. Your going to be there when your daughter comes home saying she wants tickets to the new concert, and your going to be there when she gets married." Fawn whispered. "Your bringing a new life into this world, and honey, you should be thankful to God that the father is someone you love."
I looked up at her, realizing what was happening inside of me and what a big deal it was. "The father, Fawn? He's supposed to be someone I love?" I was getting so angry at myself for letting Jimmy do this to me--no, it was me. I convinced him it would be alright. I told him I was on The Pill... maybe I forgot to take it? "How is he going to love me now that I'm going to have to tell him something like this??"
Chapter 17
A month into my pregnancy and everything is still going fine. I'm not getting heavy, yet. And I haven't told Jimmy yet. I don't know when I should... I dont know if I should. What would he say to me? "Gee, Cat.. I just remembered I don't love you." I was always letting my mind wander now, as I thought about what kind of life my son or daughter would live. I wondered if Jimmy would propose to me. Then I started letting my mind wander into how he would propose. I felt like a little girl again, dreaming about a perfect life. I pulled some pickles out of the fridge as I heard a door open then close. "Kitty? You here, baby?"
I jumped. "Yep, I'm in the kitchen." I yelled back to Jimmy. He walked into the kitchen and stared at me as I ate a peanut butter and pickle sandwich. "Hey, I'm great and you?" I asked sarchastically.
"What are you doing?" he asked walking up closer to me.
"Eating." I answered and smiled.
"Those are pickles." he said, pointing to my sandwich.
"I know that," I laughed.
"You hate pickles." he said, sitting down beside me.
"I do?" I asked, turning red as I remembered women get cravings for strange food when they are pregnant.
"Ya, remember? I took you to McDonalds last week and you flipped because you asked for no pickles and they put pickles." He said, raising an eyebrow up at me.
"Oh." I said, staring at my sandwich. It was completely sick, but I couldn't stop eating it. It was kinda strange. I stared up at Jimmy. "Oh my God, don't move." I said. He paused, completely out of motion. "There is something on your lip," I said, trying not to laugh, then quickly moving in and kissing him. He laughed. "All gone now." I winked.
Chapter 18
The skits were only improving lately, I was getting into more and more. I had a recurring sketch with Rachel and Will. Everyone was treating me like a part of the family. It felt good. I watched as Jimmy got ready for Weekend Update, quickly dressing up in his suit. Then, he looked into the mirror and frowned at me. I frowned back as a joke and he turned around. "Whats up with my hair lately?" he asked, trying to fix it in the mirror.
"That's a good question." I smirked.
"No no, I'm serious. What am I gonna do about this?" He said, staring at his mop of hair. It had been getting long, and I truly didn't mind, although I had always loved the spiky hair look.
"Cut it... then spike it. It was so hot that way," I said, getting up and playing with his hair.
"You've got a point..." he muttered, then started kissing my neck. "I hate it when your right," I felt him smile. I giggled.
"Get going, babe, and don't mess up again, you know Lorne hates that." I laughed. He looked back at me and pecked my lips.
"I love you." he said, then smiled and walked out the door, closing it behing him.
I melted as I touched my neck, where he was kissing me. Ugh, I hate being in love. I smiled for a second and decided I would watch Weekend Update backstage.
Chapter 19
"Everything seems to be fine, Miss Ferry, although you haven't brought in the father yet." Betty, my gynecologest says. "You do know who the father is, correct?" she looks down at me, through her large rimmed glasses.
I lay back on the hospital bed, wondering whether or not I should ask her. "I know the father, for sure I know him." I said. "Betty?"
"Yes, darling?" she looks back at me as she places the folders in the files.
I shudder at the nicknames she has been calling me, as if just because she gets to look inside of me she can call me whatever she wants. "What do you think of an abortion?"
Her head shoots up, and she glances at me uneasily. I suddenly grew very nervous. Betty was an old, fat, intimidating woman. She walks up close to me. "An abortion is a big deal, Catherine. A very big deal. You weren't planning on having this baby?"
I was two months into my pregnancy now, and I was scared. I felt myself become more and more scared not only for me, but for my child. I don't smoke, and I stopped drinking, I thought everything would be fine. But everytime I thought of delivering the baby, I got so scared. And then I'd think about what Jimmy would say. "No, I wasn't." I said.
"Well, that is completely your choice, Cathy. I presonally don't agree with it, but you get a lot of people who do that now-a-days. The sideaffects are many, and they are truly painful." she says, looking me straight into the eye, as if trying to figure out who the father was by piercing through me.
"I know," I whispered.
*~*~*
I lay in my apartment bed, rubbing my stomache, considering pro's and con's of abortion. The phone rang. I jumped out of my comfortable position and pick it up. "Yea?" I asked.
"Yea? Hello to you too," Jimmy laughed on the other end. "You okay babe? You sound a bit distant.."
"Oh no, I'm fine, I was just watching Maury and it's the strangest episode." I said, quickly flipping the channel to Maury incase he'd ask.
"Ya? What about? Those shows are always about freaks.." he chuckled.
" 'I'll Prove Your The Father' " I said, then smacked myself for even bringing up the idea.
He laughed. "Hey, can I come over and watch with you?"
"Yeah, come on, I'll put some pizza in the oven," I said slowly.
"Alright, honey, I'll be there in like, 10 minutes." I could almost hear him get excited. No matter how used I was to him, I could still get nervous around him.
Chapter 20
"Are you serious?" Jimmy said. I nodded, scared of the look on his face. "What the fuck are you trying to do to me, Cat?" he yelled. "Just when my career is finally taking off, your gonna drag me down with this bullshit!" He said, getting up from his chair where we had been eating pizza, and knocking over his plate.
"Jimmy, I'm sorry," I pleaded. "I never meant for this to happen, how was I supposed to know?"
He stared at me, hate in his eye there that I had never seen before. He looked me up and down icily. "What? Are you jealous or something of me, because I'm doing better than you are?" he said harshly. He raised his hand, about to strike me.
"Cat..." I was suddenly drawn back into reality by Jimmy, waving his fingers in front of my eyes. "Woah, I thought I'd lost ya or something," he chuckled. "This is good pizza." he smiled at me.
I blinked. "Thanks," I said simply, trying to relocate myself. I was in my apartment, watching Maury with Jimmy, and eating pizza. I looked back at Jimmy as he stared at me with concern.
"Cat, are you alright? You've been really distant lately, I've been going crazy trying to figure out if you'll be okay," He gave me a half-smile, then a puppy dog face. "Please tell me, baby?"
I sat for a second. What would I say? Well, there's nothing like getting right to the point, Catherine. And Jimmy always said he loves it when your blunt.
I bit my lip. "Jimmy," I looked up at him, directly into his eye. He stroked my hand gently, as if trying to confort me. I stuttered on my words. What I had been planning for two months was crashing down on me. "Jimmy, I'm pregnant."
