Star Trek: Earth Strike Episode 15: Home the Heroes
Surely... it cant be... Voyager? Frosty asked in wonderment. It is Voyager, Frosty, Data replied, and I believe I have instructed you before not to call me Shirley; that is not a proper form of address to use to a senior officer. Bursting from the very heart of the exploding Borg supercube, describing a spiral course around the huge energy |

beam that had destroyed it, the intrepid class Starship joined the battle to save the Earth. Dodging shrapnel and fragments Voyager showed the manoeuvrability for which she was built, and as the smaller bioships became aware of her presence, her impressive firepower. Voyagers phasar banks worked overtime as her beams licked out, singling out one bioship after another. Theyre under power! Picard exclaimed as Voyager turned at full impulse. |

Indeed, Spock agreed, they seem unaffected by the dampening field. Once again the planet destroying beam flicked off as the capital ships re-orientated, then back on again, spearing Earth once more with its deadly energy. Hail them, Mr Worf. Picard ordered. * * * Can you raise the Enterprise? Janeway asked. Too much subspace interference. Kim replied, grimacing. Why are they just sitting there? Chakote asked. Not only them, Kim added, Im detecting several other Starfleet vessels, including a small flotilla at LaGrange 5; all are motionless or adrift. I would surmise they have been disabled by the alien fleet in some way. Tuvok said, the cherry glow from the red alert sign flashing behind him reflecting off of his sweat soaked face. |

Then its down to us... fire modified torpedoes! Janeway ordered. Lets see how they like some Borg inspired weaponry. Paris said with a satisfaction that soon turned to dismay. What the hell? He asked. A barrage of quantum torpedoes left Voyagers tubes but inexplicably lost drive capability as soon as they exited the ships defensive shields, becoming unguided missiles that had little chance of hitting their targets. I would surmise that there is some kind of dampening field in operation that is interfering with fusion engines. Tuvok speculated. That would explain why the Enterprise isnt engaging the aliens. Paris observed. But why arent we affected? Chakote asked. Maybe its got something to do with the modifications based on Borg technology that weve made to our shields, Kim suggested, the Borg cube didnt seem to have any problem." Well, at least weve still got phasars. Paris said. Indeed, Janeway agreed, fire phasars, evasive pattern delta four. Voyagers phasars blasted forth, singling out another of the bioships, bathing it in destructive energy for a few seconds before it exploded. As though the loss of another of their number was a signal to the rest, more of the fighter sized bio-ships joined the chase of Voyager. The Starship twisted and turned but nothing could avoid the whole of the alien attack thrown in her direction and her shields flared again and again as they took hits. Shields down to 86%. Kim reported. Evasive manoeuvres ensign! Janeway insisted. Im trying... theres just too many of them! Paris said as another hit rocked the ship. We dont have much time, Tuvok informed the Captain, the planet destroying beam will soon make life on Earth untenable. I didnt come 70,000 light-years to watch Earth being destroyed. Janeway snarled then pounded the intercom control on the arm of her command chair. Janeway to Seven. The Captain snapped. Seven here, replied the ex-drones cool voice from the weapons room where she had been busy equipping more of the ships complement of torpedoes with the modified Borg nano-probes ever since Voyagers first communication with the Supercube. Listen carefully, Janeway ordered as she outlined her risky plan. |
