Gather your materials. Shown here are a red jacquard table cloth and a length of fabric from the $1 bin, candle sticks in two different materials, taper candles, floral picks, imitation maple leaves, and a vase. The table cloth was picked up at a yard sale for under $5. The crystal candle sticks I found cheap at a thrift store, and the brass candlesticks were lying on top of a dumpster. The candles came in a pack of 10 at Dollar Tree. They are actually emergency candles, but I really liked the shape and size of them. The floral picks were $.88 each at Wal Mart. The maple leaves were also a Wal Mart find at less than $1 for a pack of 80, and the vase was under $5 at Fred's.
Spread your table cloth out to check for wrinkles, stains or holes. Wash and iron if needed. I store my table cloth folded in thirds and hung on a clothes hanger so it doesn't get wrinkled and musty in the linen closet. An ivory table cloth is seasonless and will match any decor. I picked this red one because it can really be used in summer, fall or winter depending on what accessories and dishes you use.
At this point you can fold your length of fabric in thirds and use is as a table runner. This is completely optional and dependent upon how many layers you want to add.
Center your vase, add your floral picks and arrange your candle sticks, making sure that no candles are close enough to burn your florals.

Scatter the maple leaves around the table. Let them fall where they may so they appear to have fallen from a tree. For a more rustic look you can use daisies and sunflowers and an old lantern instead of the floral picks and candle sticks. More options here would include quilt block placemats or a quilt top used as a table cloth, or a flat sheet used as a table cloth (I promise no one will notice!).

My great-grandmother gave me this lantern years ago, but you can probably pick up some at a yard sale or junk store pretty cheaply. Large pillar candles or some votives in mini wash tubs (found in the craft dept. at Wal Mart) would finish this table setting nicely.

If you plan to use napkins, why not make some beaded napkin rings? I made these with glass crow beads and craft wire. Easy, and the only tool you need is a pair of jewelry pliers to cut and make loops at the end of the wire.
Time for the dishes! These were fairly inexpensive at $3.84 each, but I can only use them one time of the year. I would suggest a set of solid stoneware that will get you through the entire year. Ivory matches everything, and green will coordinate with any season's accessories. Sets of solid-color stoneware can be purchased at Wal-Mart for $16-$30 depending on how many and what kind you decide to get.
