| SERVICE PROJECTS | ||||||||
| Service Projects are something that all MOMS Club chapters participate in. Each chapter is required to participate in at least one service project each year. Our motto is: Why stop there? Since the beginning of our chapter in July 2002 we have participated in six service projects and are always looking to do more. This is a truly wonderful way for our group to get together and give back to those in need in our community. MOMS Club Of Brookline Cookbook: In the Summer of 2004, we initiated our most ambitious service project ever! The goal was to donate a minimum of $1000.00 to a charity organization for children. The way we elected to do this was to publish our very own cookbook and donate all the proceeds to charity!! All of the recipes are from our members and their family and friends. The cookbooks arrived in November 2004 and we are on our way to reaching our goal. Currently, we have sold over 100 cookbooks and have 100 more to sell. The price for a cookbook is $9.50 each and are well worth it. Please contact [email protected] to order a cookbook. Campbell's Label Collection: Currently, we are collecting labels to be donated to a school in Boston that uses the labels to earn points for much needed computers and other school equipment. The school we donate to does not have many of the resources that other schools have and is truly a school in need!! Holiday Angel Tree Children: During the Holiday 2005 season, we "adopted" three Angel Tree Children through the Salvation Army. We received a list of what they need/wanted for the Holidays and our members donated the items. It was a wonderful way to help children who might otherwise not receive anything during the gift-giving season! Our project was a huge success with all of the children receiving much more than they asked. Bowling for Charity: In May of 2004, we held a bowling for charity event that was held at our local bowling alley. At the event we collected sports equipment for a Boston based non-profit organization that provides families in need with a wide variety of children's items. We had lots of fun bowling, munching on pizza, and socializing all while helping kids in need. Welcome Baby: In the spring of 2003, our MOMS Club chapter held a baby shower in order to collect items for this organization. Welcome Baby delivers gift baskets to families that are economically disadvantaged and have just had a new baby. The gift baskets consist of diapers, stuffed animals, books, baby essentials and toiletries as well as small little gifts for the new parents. Our baby shower was a huge success! We treated it just like any other baby shower, complete with games, prizes and great food. Later, we personally delivered the huge bundle of items to their organization. St. Jude's Ranch-In November 2002, we began collecting Campbell's labels and General Mills Boxtops for this home which currently houses and takes care of over 80 abused and neglected children. The labels provide money or other incentives for their organization. As of December 2003 we collected over 225 labels and boxtops for the organization. |
