A NIGHT TO REMEMBER

Driving home on that
Beautiful night - a sudden
Bang! Total blackout.

An Anthology of Poetry
from Dungannon Visually Impaired Group
      PREFACE

Based at Dungannon Community Arts Studio, Dungannon Disability Arts was establised in 1995.  Funded by Dungannon & South Tyrone Borough Council and The Arts Council of Northern Ireland, the programme has been developing from strength to strength with new projects being introduced on a regular basis.

Our programme exists to empower, enhance and enrich the quality of the lives of people with disabilities through a participatory creative experience.

The Visually Impaired Group have been attending the studio for about four years and in this time have produced some amazing public art pieces, all of which are displayed at various locations in Dungannon.

As individuals, the group members always have interesting and funny little anecdotes and, as a result, took to the verbal arts like the proverbial duck to water.  What was intitially daunting turned into an exciting challenge.  I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate everyone involved in tis project and who knows where you go from here.

Christmas
Blooming awful
With wasteful stupidity
Endless spending, plastic madness

TARMAC TANGO

In my Lakeland days
Potholes, deep and plentiful -
Things haven't changed.

THE SCHOOL-LEAVER'S LAMENT

On my last day at
School, it dawned on me how short-
Sighted I had been.

THE HIGH ROAD

Loch Lomond shimmering below me
Thorny thistles and purple heather
Murmuring voices, pipes
Cool shade of Scottish firs
Buttered crumpets and tartan shortbread -
Happiness in the Highlands.
