| Molly Rice (nee Freeman) was born in Charlotte, North Carolina, in 1971. Her heritage is both Irish and Cherokee. She holds degrees in Theatre Arts Education and English as a Second Language. In North Carolina, Molly has taught at Mars Hill College, Upward Bound; Asheville Middle; Catawba Middle; Blackburn Elementary; ASSE Language Camp; S.O.S Save Our Students; and Balls Creek Elementary. She was co-founder of the Education Wing & first Educator Director at Hickory Community Theatre. She also has presented workshops/lectures for North Carolina Theatre Conference (NCTC), Teacher of English to Speakers of Other Languages, (TESOL), Lenoir-Rhyne College Rippell Program, Lenoir-Rhyne English classes - Public Speaking. She was poet-in-residence at Claremont, Lyle Creek, Sherrill's Ford Elementary Schools & Riverbend Middle. She was Master Mentor to the drama teacher at Bunker Hill H.S. Molly is currently the full-time theatre educator at St Stephen's H.S. where she runs the Tractor Shed Theatre. In the UK & Ireland, she worked as a freelance artist in drama and creative writing and was on the NI Arts Council's 'Artists-in-Schools' scheme. While in Ireland she taught in hundreds of schools with children of all ages & abilities. Molly is a Pushkin Trust Artist with the Duchess of Abercorn. She is currently co-writing a book with poet Adrian Rice that focuses on creative dramatics and creative writing projects for the classroom entitled, There was a Teacher. Her poetry has been published in various US magazines and journals and anthologized in A Conversation Piece: Poetry and Art (Ulster Museum in association with Abbey Press, 2002). She was published in Fortnight Magazine and The Stinging Fly - Issue 18 (June 2004). Her latest booklet, Exploring the Lough: Creative Activities for the Primary School Classroom, was published in May 2003. Molly is webmaster for this site, Belfast Lough Sea & Shore Environmental/Arts Project , Abbey Press , St James' Primary School, St. Brigid's National School, Castleknock, Dublin 15 for The Pushkin Prizes' 2004 River of Life Project Pages, Edenbrooke Primary School, Belfast for Pushkin Prizes' 2006 Reflections Project Pages and website for Writer Salley Fuller. |
