Nancy Wake was born in 1912 in Wellington, New Zealand. She moved to Australia when she was about 2 years of age. At the age of 20 she left to see the world. First she went to England, then she went to Europe and she worked there as a journalist. She had a life full of parties and travel. She married her husband Henri Fiocca, in Marseilles in 1939. She joined the resistance and became very good at evading the Gestapo, so good that in fact they put a 5 million franc bounty on her head. She decided it was too dangerous there and had several attempts at going back to Britain. When she finally succeeded there was no news of her husband. She joined another resistance group and went back to France. Germans attacked her group and they lost their radio. Nancy rode 200km to find another one that could reach London. Help came and they were safe. She was at a special celebration when she heard that her husband was killed protecting her whereabouts.
