An orbital ring designed with the sole purpose to convert solar energy into a usable commodity.  The impractical nature of such a project is evident.  At first legislature rejected the idea and scrapped the project.  Wunt would not accept that answer.  He retooled his entire North American RD division to dispel the impractical nature of this idea.  After many failures, including a giant extension cord, a theoretical Tesla Castor (A large machine that casts electrical energy across distances), and a giant tower reaching the ring in orbit, a battery facility was created for the ring.

This WURC factory would uses raw materials captured from space debris and shipments from the planet to build the battery and flight assemblies.  These WURC flight attachments have limited flight/hover capabilities and internal guidance systems.   The assembly fills with the solar energy and then launches for the planet.   After disengaging, the batteries would fly to the spire of the Metro or Botanica they are to repower.  After completion of its task, the WURC flying assembly returns to a reallocation facility to be reprocessed.

Now the world enjoys a limitless, clean supply of energy with little or no cost to the Earth. As can be seen in the picture above, the retractable panels go into standby mode when they are not receiving direct light.  Numerous WURCs are in place at the station repairing the ring and creating batteries for the planet below.  All of their activity for a year combined can be powered by a single battery.  The Metros need one every 4 months.
